Elected officials don’t have to be experts in research funding or many other specialized areas of knowledge. They do need to respect the knowledge of the actual experts in the areas they are considering, however, to rule wisely.

Scientific leaders know this, which is why tri-council funding agencies ask questions about whether/how your research addresses sex & gender, and asks how you enact EDI within your research team. It’s why some grants are rebalanced to ensure representation & French applns are allowed to be longer.

Highly concerning that parliament is even discussing this. Equitable access to scientific training and employment, and demonstrating knowledge & integration of relevant EDI issues in your science are key to smart public investment in research.

Extra deception/confusion points for using "Antifa" properly as an abbreviation for antifascism in the headline and then implying in the subhead that "antifa" is a membership organization of some sort.

you'd think a prominent news outlet like the New York Times might mention that "antifa" isn't an actual organization in a long story about antifa, but nope!

and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate

subheadline: "Mark Bray was teaching courses on antifascism. Turning Point USA accused him of belonging to antifa, which he denies. His flight to Spain was canceled abruptly on Wednesday night."

I don't blame patients who get confusing results and seek to sensemake; this is normal.
I also don't think restricting test result access is the answer; I don't think it's possible to walk back & pt access has IDed a lot of missed dx.
We need to figure out how to improve the system (not users).

I am honestly horrified at how common it seems to be to feed medical test results into ChatGPT for interpretation. We need to find ways to provide better patient-facing interpretation in a timely manner. People are making decisions about their health, diet, etc. based on a babble generator.
