Congratulations Aonishiki on another amazing performance. Well done to all rikishi. thanks everyone for another great basho.
January 25, 2026 at 8:42 AM
Aonishiki wins! it’s a playoff! Aonishiki vs Atamifuji!
January 25, 2026 at 8:12 AM
Atamifuji wins! Abi, Kirishima and Onosato are eliminated. Aonishiki must win to force a 2 man playoff.
January 25, 2026 at 7:21 AM
If there was a middleweight division then Fujinokawa would be a sure fire Yokozuna. Has destroying Tokihayate and Asakoryu this last 2 days. Even as a heavyweight he’ll be in the joi as a 21 year old in March. Clear Yokozuna potential despite his small size.
January 25, 2026 at 7:19 AM
Kotoshoho with the piss off back to Juryo tsukiotoshi. I think it’ll be a while before we see Hatsuyama again.
January 25, 2026 at 7:02 AM
Isegahama new recruit Asahifuji just won Jonokuchi and is according to sumodb from Mongolia. Seihakuho/Toshinofuji is also from Mongolia and is originally from Miyagino but now also Isegahama. are they relaxing the one foreigner rule or is the split of Isegahama and Miyagino imminent?
January 25, 2026 at 6:22 AM
My predictions for the top guys‘ matchups tomorrow
Onosato vs Hoshoryu
Aonishiki vs Kotozakura
Kirishima vs Abi
Atamifuji vs Oshoumi
January 24, 2026 at 9:01 AM
You feel like maybe Aonishiki isnt ready until he can beat Onosato. That was brutal
January 24, 2026 at 8:54 AM
Atamifuji may finally start to be putting it together, although I won’t truly believe it till he does it in Sanyaku. Easier being the underdog
January 24, 2026 at 8:32 AM
Ura the ballet dancer
January 24, 2026 at 8:19 AM
There wasn’t a ton in it but I didn’t like what onokatsu did at the end there. Was going for a throw. Clearly taken out. But he still throws Tobizaru off at the end. unnecessary
January 24, 2026 at 7:43 AM
Juryo Watch:

Gone: Hatsuyama
In danger: Tomokaze, Asahakuryu
Some danger: Ryuden, Tobizaru

Coming up: Fujiseiun
Promotion chance: Kotoeiho, Fujiryoga, Daiseizan, Sadanoumi

Doubt we’ll see a lot of movement here. Lots of middling scores around the promotio/demotion zones. Yay for Fujiseiun!
January 23, 2026 at 10:40 PM
Makushita Watch:

In Danger: Tochitaikai, Hakuyozan, Hidenoumi, Kazekeno, Kotokuzan

Promotion chance: Himukamaru, Seihakuho, Fukuzaki, Takakento, Shimazuumi

Many different things could happen here. Lots of close calls that could go either way. Sadly Enho missed his chance yesterday
January 23, 2026 at 10:33 PM
Heartbreaking to see Enho lose but bravo Nobehara for a perfectly fought bout. Enho put every piece of himself into that. Bring that again in March and he’ll still make Juryo but you just hope his body holds together for that long.
January 23, 2026 at 6:19 AM
If Takayasu can win one more match then the top 6 men on the Banzuke will all have got their Kachikoshi. Last time this happened was way back in May 2023 when Terunofuji, Takakeisho, Kiribayama, Hoshoryu, Daieisho, Wakamotoharu and Kotonowaka all did. And no didn’t get any names wrong.
January 23, 2026 at 3:17 AM
Enho is 2 wins away from Juryo!
Day9 makushita
Ms11 Enhō 4-0 (L)
Ms26 Gonoumi 4-0 (R)
Dang! If Enhō’s not careful he might find himself in jūryō next basho! #hatsubasho2026
January 19, 2026 at 2:38 PM
He can’t get it this basho but with an 11-4 in November and an 8-1 start here Kirishima is putting Ozeki numbers back up. I’ll believe it when I see it but he’s doing all the right things
January 19, 2026 at 2:29 PM
10 rikishi are either 7-1 or 6-2 and leading Makuuchi. And none of them are boring names! This basho is going to be a classic. Today blew the whole thing wide open (Not that it wasn’t already)
January 18, 2026 at 10:51 AM
Worth noting Oshoumi is now 12-1 in his last 13 matches in Makuuchi
January 17, 2026 at 3:31 PM
Ok so lets break down why Fujinokawa is so incredible here. Start with what Onokatsu wants and gets. He immediately gets a left hand outside grip and has his right hand inside fighting for a grip there. That’s his preferred grip. He is 8cm taller and 43kg heavier. This should be an easy win for him
Day4
M7 Fujinokawa 2-1 (L)
M6 Ōnokatsu 1-2 (R)
Even when Fujinokawa is wrapped up close he’s so mobile. Love to watch him work #hatsubasho2026
January 16, 2026 at 2:15 AM
I’m up to date now. Oshoma and Abi leading the pack. That wont last. The Yokozuna, Ozeki and Sekiwake all on fire. Fujinokawa and Oshoumi massive highlights. And Asanoyama is still a force to be reckoned with. Hakkeyoi!
January 15, 2026 at 10:41 AM
No awards this basho. Gonna be constantly behind on them so Ive decided to just give them a miss. Anyone who wishes to do them on my behalf just link me when you post them and I’ll repost all the nominations I get

It’s sumo this weekend!

Shodai went 4-11 from M5 and deserved to be the same rank as Abi and Tobizaru. Abi ended up M12W, Tobizaru M13E

Shodai?

M8E

Something has happened here.
