New research on emergency rental assistance during the pandemic not only went to neighborhoods and households in need but also had long lasting, positive effects after receiving assistance (e.g., less likely to be displaced). Report coming soon.

So many businesses rely on US Census Bureau data for decision-making.

And the commercial data they buy? It's modeled from Census data.

The downstream consequences of this could be dire for our economy.

Come to the first screening (May 7) of "Evicting the American Dream", a powerful documentary on eviction and homelessness in the U.S. I'm honored to be part the project and to be on the panel. See the trailer and more at sunnyvalepres.com/pda-film/

Let me know if you want to host a screening.

My first thought after watching this is I need to make a space to hide people in my home... Reminds me of the books I read about hiding Jews during WWII.
This is so fucked up. ICE agents in Massachusetts smashed the window of a car to grab a Guatemalan guy who was with his wife. They were waiting for their lawyer to arrive because he has a pending asylum case.

If the Trump administration makes cuts to HUD, it would be “outright wrong,” Steve Berg, CPO, National Alliance to End Homelessness.

“And we know what the result of that is going to be. It’s going to be more people living on the street, more people dying on the street.”

This is so far removed from reality.

For researchers/anyone needing data that’s getting wiped from gov websites, check out archive.org. For example here’s public health data recently deleted from the CDC archive.org/details/2025...

I also anticipate census disruptions eventually. Check out nhgis.org for that.

Keep up the work!

So the hiring freeze rescinded my upcoming grant with the VA. Also impacted several other things. So I might be out of a job after my current grant runs out.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this raises unemployment by several points soon. Both thru direct and indirect effects of the freeze.
