There is a moment at this time of year when the word ‘apricity’ really comes into view. For those who don’t know it, it was recorded only once, in 1623, before slipping out of view. Apricity is the warmth of the sun on a chilly day.
No it’s Boat of Garten 😊
He was actually behind me, I heard something & turned, thought it was a cyclist 🤣

Third photo he was just starting to run toward me - I moved quite quickly (I wasn’t running honest) on my way!
An interesting close encounter on my wander in the woods this morning 😳

Many cloud-based internet services may be down today, but we're glad to say Walkhighlands is still up and running as normal!

However, we have some planned downtime from midnight tonight as we've a big batch of software updates we need to apply to our servers. We expect this to take around 2 hours..
It’s a chilly one 🥶.

Glad I programmed the storage heaters last night (& since they’ve been off since April, very glad they worked!).
Thank you. I mostly go out on my own now so don’t have to worry about anyone else’s speed/plans for later & I love nothing more than being out dawn to dusk in summer (strength/pain are issues, stamina never seems to be thankfully) making the absolute most of the long days.
I’ve come to this conclusion early (57) due to neurological conditions/return of childhood asthma & I find when I am up a hill now I don’t want to leave….

I came pretty close to stopping in 2021 so now all hills are bonus hills*!

*Munros 126-171 & others that I don’t track are bonus hills.

🌳Scotland needs Paths Into Nature!🚶

We’ve launched an ambitious joint manifesto ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election, backed by 7 partner orgs in Scottish Outdoor Recreation Alliance.

Our goal? ✅ Make Scotland’s world-class access rights an everyday reality for all!

Word of the Day is ‘tandsmør’, from Danish. It describes bread that is buttered so thickly you can see tooth marks in it after every bite. Its literal translation? ‘Tooth butter’.

Do you believe all schools should have a library? 📚

It might surprise you, therefore, that there is no legal requirement for Scotland’s schools to have a school library or librarian.

We are calling on Scottish Government to change this story.

Today I offer a reminder of the word ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted from too much work. To be ‘foreswunk’ (my own version) is to be exhausted before you even begin.
I’m staying in Tyndrum and the pod has a hot tub which- bliss after a hill 😊
Ben Lomond today, blustery but only one shower on way down.

Ben Lomond means finishing possibly (probably) the smallest subset of Munros - the Cardinal Munros - most Northerly (Ben Hope), Easterly (Mount Keen), Westerly (Sgurr na Banachdich) & finally most Southerly (Ben Lomond).

A tenet of Fascism is keep repeating lies and people will become so confused about what is the truth that they’ll start to believe them. We all have a responsibility to keep repeating the truth in the face of politically-motivated lying. Don’t just roll your eyes, speak up.

Word of the day is ‘tamalou’: a French name for an older person who no longer greets their friends with ‘how was your holiday?, but with ‘t’as mal où ?’, ‘where does it hurt?’. There follows an enthusiastic account of aches and pains and doctor’s appointments.
🤣

That’s quite funny as my just after 11 photo was me getting up for the old(er) woman nighttime loo visit! I tend to be asleep by about 9 normally due to neuro needs.
