I heard that some of you people prefer to receive your snarky science fact-checking of viral news stories in meme format, and I am here to help.

I have a big ask. My 9yo son is autistic and he’s been raising a betta fish he named Kevin. Yesterday He asked if he could “share a photo of Kevin with the whole world“. I don’t know if this will work, but a dad’s gotta try. Like and share if that’s your thing. Kevin says hi! 🐟👋

New paper out quantifying the degree of reproductive compromise in North Atlantic right whales. Quite interested to read it, as I'm hopeful some of our data might shed some light on potential contributing factors to the reduced reproductive rates. #🐋🦑🧪 www.int-res.com/articles/esr...

This is a species of beaked whale, which is an odontocete (toothed whale). It was examined bc it stranded deceased, so it died & washed up on the shore. The scientists examine it to document the species-specific anatomy and collect samples to determine cause of death & for other research purposes.

I'm definitely not an expert on this species of beaked whale, but my understanding is that they are very deep diving and their habitat is not near coastal areas, so they are rarely sighted/encountered. I don't think there are enough data to derive a population estimate.
