Age verification?

The code for a game came printed in the pages of a magazine and you had to type it in to play the game. Plus as the Spectrum had no hard drive, when you switched the computer off, the game was gone.

February 1989 and White Dwarf 110 expanded on Ogryns, one of the abhuman factions that were part of the Imperial Guard at the time. It also featured an advert for the Imperial Guard plastic boxed set, as available early 1989 with its Napoleonic cover by John Blanche.

August, White Dwarf issue 56 we see adverts for the first GW-produced paint sets: Citadel Colour Set 1, and Citadel Colour Set 2, the ad text proclaims, "Citadel Colour is another quality product manufactured by games Workshop Ltd." (as well as being in the second Citadel Compendium)

1991 would see the release of ‘Warhammer 40,000: Compilation’ which was a collection of articles from White Dwarf. The magazine had, as shown in this timeline, been continually adding both new content and refining existing areas since November 1987.

Issue 113 of White Dwarf had more #Warhammer #40K (Volksheim Brotherhood, The Pacification of Flotis III & the Sentinel Imperial Guard Walker) but of note is that it started to feature the second volume of The Realm of Chaos - The Lost and The Damned, looking at narrative campaigns.

WD 107 would see the release of the Eldar Harlequin Jetbike, a preview of the Realm of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned. There was also a #Warhammer Fantasy Battle article that was the first ever ‘Battle Report’, 24 Hours at Carik Mound.

Also the Les Edwards cover was also used for a Conan book!
