Everyone has an opinion on VHS Halloween, so:

The first two pieces and the framing arc are pretty bad, especially with the AI. I was ready to dismiss, but the following three segments were all good for different reasons. A tonal mess (complimentary), can’t really recommend it, but not a waste.

Seeing people take runs at the menswear guy is bonkers to me as a guy who wears the same hoodies he had in highschool. I leave that guy well enough alone, I don’t want any of that smoke.

The original is the last horror that made me leave the lights on at night, so I’ll always have a soft spot for that. All of those tools are much more familiar today, but its kinetic energy stays intact imo.

What cracks me up is that Christianity is pretty clear that you could live a hellish life all the way to your deathbed, and as long as you have genuine remorse and find the epiphany of the lord, you’re forgiven! But he knows: where grace may land on his spirit, there is only gray water.

Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

Mom's 4 Liberty finally realizes they are on the losing end of a 75-25 issue seeing @rweingarten.bsky.social celebrating banned books and just decide to go with, no, no, the liberals are the book banners.

It still doesn't have a standout moment, but the physicality is massive now. I'm so annoyed that it doesn't sound like much otherwise, and it'd fall flat if I tried to play it to anyone else casually, even though I'm really enjoying it now.

"make sure you have real speakers" is no kind of recc.
tomatolikeabus.bsky.social
This isn't usually a question I have, I'm used to needing baseline requirements to meet minimum needs of a genre.
I previewed the new Blawan in the shower w/ a decent BT speaker and thought it was mid-tempo tepid, especially disappointing after previous EPs. Headphones now, and it's doing the job??

Don't need real speakers to appreciate lyrics or musical virtuosity, but they *are* needed to fully transmit any work of sound.
If there are technical pre-reqs to get the frisson, is that a sensory crutch or the nature of the medium?
tomatolikeabus.bsky.social
Proper speakers needed to experience electronic albums: where do we stand?
Weakness of craft or necessities for a true experience?

Which itself is an expression of past trauma, because “trying my best to understand and anticipate the next moves of powerful shitheads” didn’t really get me anything except more rage, dejection, and adjacent neuroses.

This may be an expression of feeling regularly overwhelmed and needing the firehouse of history to stop, but it is not only endless, it must also be constantly parsed through the bastard logics.

I keep saving memes like this where it’s “none of my business” and “I will simply disappear” but I know who I am. I want to know everything, especially if it’s something I didn’t know anything about.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

do you see how easy it is to just say "of course we're not leaving you behind, what kind of people would we be if we did?"
it brings tears to my eyes to hear someone say simply and clearly "we'll keep you safe here"

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

"Bushart shared an image of President Donald Trump with the quote, "We have to get over it," which Trump said in January 2024 after a shooting at Iowa's Perry High School. Text added to the image said, "This seems relevant today."

That was the post??
