Mazzulla was absolutely giving it to Hugo as we went into that last time out. Did anyone see what that was about? (I'm cooking, so a little distracted.)

Here are two Muppet-related things I believe as whole-heartedly as anything:

1) There is a significant but hard to specify difference between people who watched THE MUPPET SHOW when it was still on the air and those who didn't.
Life is full of hard choices.

If I had to pick one of my kid albums, though, it would probably be the John Denver/Muppets Christmas album. Not so much for the music, but because I can't think of any childhood influence that was more formative or persistent than the Muppets.

The first proper album I ever owned (apologies to DISCO DUCK) was THRILLER, which my aunts bought for me and my brother when it came out. I was 4, and I was fascinated by the tiger in the photos. The first albums I ever bought with by own money and no adult input were NEVERMIND and ACHTUNG BABY.
I never know what counts in those "first record you ever bought" things because there's a very blurry line between "parents buy you records for birthday/Xmas", "pester mum to buy you record while you're with her at the shops" and "mum gives you money but you spend it while at the shops with her".

Rereading Michael Chabon's THE YIDDISH POLICEMAN'S UNION (via audiobook) for the first time since publication. It is an absolute delight, and the performance by Peter Riegert is marvelous.

Grading soundtrack today is Trane's Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings. Man, McCoy kills it on the November 1 rendition of "Naima." (I'm super late to this party because I've always preferred Miles's second quintet to Trane's classic quartet.)

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

I am once again asking who's gonna ask Joe or Chris about the situation below? Where is our hard-hitting Celtics investigative journalism? (I kid! I know there's nothing to it, but the whole thing was hilarious, not least of all Scal's reaction.)
C's need to sign Chris Boucher so Joe can settle this beef. (Also: we could have a tag-team match between Joe/JB and Boucher/Niang.)

High school baseball is a big deal in #Japan
Bigger than the NBA
Koshien is like a national purity test where young boys shed blood, sweat, and tears to honor their hometown
And sometimes the players are beaten into paralysis during that spartan training

Baseball Battles Without Honor or Humanity: The Dark Side of High School Yakyu (Op-Ed)
High school baseball is akin to a religion in Japan - which is why Koryo High's systemic violence went unchecked for years. 3 strikes? Not an out when you're bashing freshmen with a bat in a dorm.

Shout Factory put THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP up on their YouTube page for free, and I cannot recommend it enough.

There are some days when it's my very favorite movie.

OK, just for fun. Without thinking too hard, name up to 10 performances in Hitch films you love. They don't have to be the 10 best, just the 10 that spring to mind.

1. Pat Hitchcock (Strangers)
2. Pat Hitchcock (Psycho)
3. Tallulah (Lifeboat)
4. Hume Cronyn (Shadow)
5. Brenda de Banzie (Man Who)

@mikepradanba.bsky.social Just got a copy of SPACED OUT from Amazon and opened it to find this. Is this an actual signature? (Love the book, by the way -- I've been working through it slowly and ran out of renewals on my library's copy.)

The first thing I thought of after reading this was: "We laughed at the hollyhocks together
and then I sprayed them with lye." Forgive me, the internet has broken my mind.
To clarify, I mean in-person interaction. My husband walked by a guy doing some gardening today and said, "Oh, those are beautiful hollyhocks. I always have bad luck growing them. How do you do it?" And he replied, without turning around, "You think I'm gonna tell you?"

This is awesome.
This is lineup explorer
It allows you to do a statistical deep dive(offense AND defense) into any lineup a team played during a season. It spans 2001 -2025; and for 21 onwards, it also serves you a clip playlist for the selected lineup.
