Reposting this open postdoc position with more detailed specifications. Couldn't find the right fit in the first round—not due to lack of strong candidates, but because we're looking for someone whose expertise matches a specific project. More details in the job ad. Apply!

Doctoral work of Lauren Johnson (PhD candidate, WashU); I learned a lot from her during this project!

Light pollution allows Tiger Mosquitoes to shift blood-feeding to later hours when daytime temperatures would be too hot.

Putting this prediction out there now -

In 2025, Alan Dershowitz will come out of the woodwork to defend Elon Musk and/or DOGE.

And in a way, I think his work has shifted some from thinking "Why are there so many species in the tropics?" to "Why are so many of the few, widely distributed species in temperate areas?" as these are the species that drive the latitude-range size correlation.

While some might say the ideas of Stevens (1989) have been soundly rejected, it continues to get cited at a high rate.
It contains interesting ideas that provoked great subsequent research.

Stevens (1989)'s attempts to link climate, range size, species richness, and metapopulation dynamics haven't held up to scrutiny.
Stevens (1989) explained the latitude-range size correlation with the climatic variability hypothesis. But there are other compelling hypotheses linking the two!

Genuine MO politics question -
If a voter-approved amendment was required to give St. Louis local control of police in 2012, why is voter-approval not required to lose local control in 2025?
@jasonrosenbaum.bsky.social can you help me here?
