Finished the novel. Thematically, it felt closer to Wise Blood. I also just found out it was published two years before The Lame Shall Enter First, which means she took the three characters from the novel and reworked them for the novella. I’d thought it was the other way around. Interesting.
Three chapters into The Violent Bear It Away, and the main cast feels eerily similar to The Lame Shall Enter First (love that one). So I’m guessing at least two-thirds of them won’t end well lol

The Southern Reach trilogy has instilled in me a small, persistent, and unreasonable fear of tidal pools, like that hotel room in The Shining, the red room in Twin Peaks, or the famous corner in Mulholland Drive.
And that’s just one of the reasons I like this series.
