Last night I had a dream that @kimletgordon.bsky.social gave a dance performance in my neighbor’s house as the living room quickly filled with water. My kid, thankfully, brought her floaties.

Stop pretending like the goo goo dolls weren’t fucking awesome. This was a band whose main purpose was to make you feel like you’re the only person in the world as you walk through the grocery store aisle, and they excelled.

The only thing I find annoying about IdiotBox Effects is that I don't play metal and so many of these pedals are for HEAVY RIFFS.

That said, I'm a really big fan of Heavy Weapon and Deathray. They're well built, kinda weird, very affordable, all currently on sale.

Porter Records was a distinctive avant-jazz and psych underground label that mostly operated in the late 2000s/early 2010s. If the Big Ears festival had been around then, Porter’s roster would’ve been well represented.

A little late to the party, but this @clppng.bsky.social Tiny Desk is so fucking good man. They basically strapped up a whole office's worth of clutter to a MIDI sequencer and let fly, along with the most beautiful piano I've ever heard: youtu.be/h0-k7vW9Xek?...

I think I have a few dingers from back in the day on here.

Unfortunately, NPR's move toward the "headline is just a sentence" has sorta taken the fun/format out of dumb puns.

Listening to this again and my assessment remains the same: Scratches that SubRosa itch! In addition to lots of fiddle shred, there's also a lot of nyckelharpa, a keyed Nordic fiddle that you also bow. Folkloric post-metal without the kooky stuff.
November 14: Monograf - Occultation (2025)

Catching up! Lars @totalvibration.bsky.social perked my ears up by comparing these guys to SubRosa, which would be a dirty trick if it wasn't accurate. Good stuff.

You can only do so much in the moment. People get excited! They wanna cheer about their favorite song and then they forget there's a coda!

But mentally I was here: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
The Tiny Desk is out now btw. It's really good, except the last song, Iris, where after the extended bridge/solo the music drops out before the last, triumphant chorus. everyone except me, my friend brandon, and the band thought the song was over and just kept cheering. 🤷‍♂️

For years, someone would text me a video of Goo Goo Dolls' first-ever TV appearance (via Sound FX in 1995) where the boys sat on a couch and played "Name" and ask, "Tiny Desk?"

So here it is: I finally brought the Goo Goo Dolls to the Tiny Desk.
