Just a dork that likes things.
Welp, just learned from @philipsherburne.bsky.social's newsletter that Florian Schneider's estate is up for auction, and this is the procrastination link I needed today.

This really hit the spot for me. I very much enjoyed the previous album, and those folk horror vibes go so well with their characteristically angular riffs.
HUGE day for new music. Here's my picks:

Yellow Eyes- "Confusion Gate." USBM's finest return to their more metallic works after a foray into stranger territory, but they've brought some of that sense of otherworldly wonder to their classic sound.

@totalvibration.bsky.social Lars, I know you're an Exorzist III guy, but don't bother with the one that came out today. I'm bummed I spent $3 on it lol.

Fab reco from @highter.bsky.social. Decaying, droning, distorted soundscapes that make my hair stand up. Like SUMAC meets early Black Dice.

Can't believe 'The Argument' is 24 years old this month. It baffled me a little when it came out, but as I age with it, I find new details to enjoy.

I just learned my doctor, who I adore and have been going to for ~20 years, is switching to a concierge-only model that will cost $7,500 a year. I hate our healthcare system.

Completely addicted to this album. It's like Mazzy Star meets PJ Harvey but make it country.

I just read about D'Angelo's death and said "oh my god" out loud. What a legend. His genius gave us this, and I love it dearly.

New Yowie record is fabulous. If you know them, it's very THAT. If you don't, I believe @totalvibration.bsky.social described them as "wiggly". It's mictronal, mathy, groovy, and brain-breaking. Maybe wait until you've had your breakfast.

Another stellar reco from a lovely fella. Anti-colonial, sci-fi inspired gothy post punk. (@bagagwaa.bsky.social this is so up your alley it's not even funny).

Damn, just read about Tompa. RIP to an absolute legend. I periodically yell "GO" like him in the shower, and I encourage you to do the same.

I have been (im)patiently waiting for a new Town Portal album, and it's finally coming out in November. The first track out is fantastic. It's mathy, it's gnarly, it's pretty, too.

I cannot WAIT for this. If you haven't dug in, the previous 2 books in this series, 'Harlem Shuffle' and 'Crook Manifesto', take a leaf out of August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle and comment on historical tipping points through the eyes of a world-weary, somewhat shady furniture dealer. Just fab.

Saw Mogwai play to about 15 people when 'Ten Rapid' came out

Saw Prince play (just him and a piano) about 3 months before he died

Was up front for Carcass when they packed St. Vitus

Damon Che spat fire at me when Don Cab played Bottom of the Hill on the 'What Burns' tour
What is your biggest concert flex?

A lean, propulsive read that is, on the surface, a blow-by-blow account of an amateur cycling race. Underneath that, however, are darkly hilarious musings on suffering, ego, and why the hell people race on bicycles in the first place. I don't know shit about cycling and I LOVED this.
