Neat. Is it me, or does the site already look better than yesterday?

Also, just realized you can make and share your own clues 😎

Similes for Def —> WP link word?

Def “as” WP — I saw it once and liked it, but the setter ended up revising the clue.

Alison, who is always a great guest, has been hyping this to the point where I might just listen to my first TP stuff in ages

@illogicaljoker.bsky.social Nothing urgent, but if you think of any accessible examples of comparative analysis re: video games, would you please send a link my way? The focus of our upcoming marking period is persuasion & comparative analysis writing, and that would a be helpful addition. Thank you

Fwiw, I have noticed when writing up annotations that they fall into these same four patterns

An earlier version of this puzzle was solved in 2min,13s with no checks or reveals. Amazing to me.

Any other speed-runners out there? (for the leisurely, it’s probably an 8-10min puzzle)

WORD FACT

Contronyms are words with two contradictory meanings. For example,

Left — departed or remaining

Buckle — to fasten or to collapse

Dust — to remove dust or to add dust

Sanction — to approve or to impose a penalty

Bound — heading to a place or being tied to a place

I can recommend three ways to solve this puzzle:
1. Leisurely, enjoying the surfaces and wordplay;
2. with the company of a lesser experienced solver;
3. as a speed-run (someone solved it in under 2:30!) 🐇

Each Friday, I enjoy the Guardian‘s weekly Quick Cryptic, which I sometimes share with my kids and students. I’ve tried to make one here. A few clues:
• Store reportedly makes bread (4)
• Permanently setting in place hairdo (4)
• Ruin section of sofa terribly (4)

Maybe fun to share? Enjoy ~

Quick poll:

Is "replaced" too difficult an anagram indicator for a "Guardian Quick Cryptic" style puzzle that overtly emphasizes anagrams? Thank you.

Many genres (not just news/politics) are by their very definition designed to activate negative emotions, often in the name of ‘camaraderie.‘ They simply have to fulfill their nature. I personally find this helpful to keep in mind.
