They have various portals that originate from the sign ups to hold the events. Then they report back with crowd estimates and photographs. It’s basically a google doc tracking system. Then the orgs verify. They’re legit.
I’m disappointed that CNN did not make more of an effort to cover small towns in the Southeast given the fact that your news outlet is within range. There are reports from organizers that there might have been over 4K local events. That’s a news story. Protests in big cities are norm. This is not.
You actually don’t need experts to verify these facts about how damaging starvation is to humans. In the US people might get a clue having known anorexics. Other than that, starvation is a foreign concept to most Americans. And these days the majority of fat & angry voters don’t care.
Please let us know the exact confirmed number of events once you have been able to count them. I keep seeing media outlets lowballing the numbers by saying “2500” or saying “hundreds”. I’d like an exact number with which to counter the lowballing they’re doing now.
