Really recommend reading this piece by @kissane.myatproto.social if you are about the future of social media and decentralized networks. This piece is not just about Trump's arrival on Bluesky; it's about the state of play for the open networking sector, and the political risks it faces.
Trump Administration's Arrival on Bluesky Highlights Growing Pains for Open Networks | TechPolicy.Press
The administration’s antagonistic entry to the platform is best understood as a game of chicken, writes Erin Kissane.

Promoting the editor-in-chief's personal side project. Zero named sources in a story that promotes the editor-in-chief's personal political position. Misspelling the subject's name. It took one day for CBS News to become a conservative blog.

Because TikTok is an incredible place, every time we open the app now, we are shown that fake video of a reporter being arrested. Simultaneously, a bunch of commenters are convinced our video of state troopers in Broadview from yesterday evening is AI. Perfect, no notes

My favorite “maga can’t be punks” moment was at work when someone told me they were also at the Green Day concert and this person was a top-tier kill-the-homeless type of capitalist and I just said “… do you understand the lyrics?” And she just said it was a good show 🫠

Reading media news is wild now that Im indie and it just looks like huge companies congratulating themselves for doing the absolute least.

"We have millions of dollars and we sent readers a survey!"
Girl, abolish yourself.

Upsetting, but not surprising, that people yell "what can I do!" but the community events I run still have empty seats.

So many want others to do the work, while they just want to be praised for thinking the right way. But, its easier to get offline when you have a real community to work with

In a post-truth era, its more difficult to connect. We turn to systems that reinforce us rather than make the effort to build community, and isolation causes strife.
"What if the real doomer scenario is that we pollute the internet and the planet, reorient our economy and leverage ourselves, outsource big chunks of our minds, realign our geopolitics and culture, and fight endlessly over a technology that never comes close to delivering on its grandest promises?"

I’m not sure it’s safe to talk about the community work we’re doing anymore, so I won’t say much here. But I also won’t stop running harm reduction forums, or giving out supplies.

And you cannot de-escalate if you are escalated so I will continue to research and post about happiness triggers.

Not going to ONA this year because its more important for me to spend time with people doing the work on the ground in harm reduction, and independent creators, than news leaders right now. Its a pivot that feels good, but I will miss the shenanigans at the carousel bar.

I've seen numerous examples of this in recent days - we're at a point where some reporters are using LLMs as a source and not even remotely properly factchecking, but also where LLM generated material is making its way into other material and being unknowingly reproduced by others.
WTF? I was quoted in this story but I have never spoken to the reporter nor would I have said those things. Is everything just generated by LLMs these days?
