The targeted Oct. 13, 2023 Israeli attack that killed @reuters.com journalist Issam Abdallah and wounded 6 others in south Lebanon was a war crime, a United Nations rapporteur said Friday.

Journalists are civilians under international humanitarian law — they are #NotATarget.

Have you noticed how the BBC keeps describing the Gaza ceasefire as "Trump's agreement"?

Why? What did he actually do to claim credit?

Big thank you to whoever has been putting these up around Beeston.

Future historians are going to have a tough time explaining this.

Quick update on UK law:

It is an act of terrorism to hold a sign saying "Palestine Action".

It is legal to put a sign saying "Palestine Action" on the cover of a magazine.

It is an act of terrorism to hold a copy of a magazine whose cover says "Palestine Action"

I hope that clears things up.

Here is video footage of the man holding the magazine and his subsequent arrest for terrorism offences by a swarm of police officers near Kings Cross, London.

The footage was captured by journalist, Betty Dempsey.

The cuts at Reach are savage as the company desperately pivots to video.

This will mean 600 experienced journalists being lost while 150 younger, cheaper and more Tiktok savvy journalists are hired.

It's a desperate act by a company doomed by inept management.
nujofficial.bsky.social
There’s strength in numbers! That’s why we’re asking members to write to their MPs about the proposed redundancies at Reach, which place 600 journalists at risk.

Use our template letter to ask your MP to raise the issue in Parliament and take action:

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

Keir Starmer is now applying political pressure on the police for another crackdown on chants heard at pro-Palestine protests, including "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free". He also says he wants to look at even more police powers www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

The new front cover of The New World magazine.

A man has been arrested in London tonight for silently holding the magazine up in the street.
The front cover headline is “Sign of the Times” and is a picture of the protest placard which says “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”
Palestine Action has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation by UK government and anyone holding a sign of support is arrested for terrorism offences.

It is brilliant news - and remember to report incidents of abuse, harassment, and intimidation using our Journalists' Safety Tracker, which forms an evidence base in the union’s campaign for improved safety.

Report an incident:

Journalists now have a dedicated safety officer in every UK police force, providing direct access to support when faced with abuse and threats of violence.

At last week's members meeting, we voted on ending our dispute. Administrators offered to pause compulsory redundancies until February, at which point they will begin in full what they have threatened all along.

Over 90% of members in attendance voted to reject this (non-)offer.

Newark, where Jenrick is the MP, is one of the whitest areas in the country.
tregenza.bsky.social
Newark deserves a better MP.
bestforbritain.org
Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

"suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life"

Why not terrorism?

How is this different from the attack on the Manchester synagogue or holding up a sign in support of PA?

Almost 300 participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla are still detained by Israeli forces, who are reportedly subjecting activists to brutal physical and verbal abuse.

This is not “a matter for the Israeli government”. It’s a violation of international law.

This should concern everyone.

Protest is a cornerstone of our democracy - without it, we wouldn’t have the right to vote. We must protect it at all costs.

After years of the Tories attacking our right to protest, this Labour government should strengthen our rights, not restrict them even further.

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.
Goody-bag merch from Tory Conference branded "When Labour negotiates Britian loses" and signed "Kemi Badenoch".

"Conservatism, unlike cheap populism, should be about constitutional stewardship: leaving behind institutions stronger than we found them."

This idea of conservatism, which was always preached more than it was practiced, died when the Tories elected Johnson as leader.

Robert Buckland epitomises the branch of conservatism that pays attention to the Union (and the legal commitments underpinning it), values personal liberty and instinctively distrusts silver bullet solutions to multi-faceted issues. Feeling for him today:

Please note that Turning Point UK is part of the organisation run by the late but not lamented Charlie Kirk.

The UK version is run by the nazi-saluting Nick Tenconi (leader of UKIP).

This is all part of the merger of the far-right and religious extremists.

As an aside, I will buy any journalist a drink of their choice if they ask the Home Secretary whether she supports these powers being used to ban protests outside migrant hotels.
