I think that "feeling cozy" should be its own hobby. Like you curate an ever growing collection of robes and nightgowns, rotated by season. An assortment of warm beverages and herbal teas. No less than three pairs of slippers. Pillows across the spectrum of textures, with preferred pairings.

now that i teach i cannot express enough how much i want to read whatever a 19 year old comes up with at 2am on their roommate's vyvanse. that nonsense is worth 100000x any AI output

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

oh no, that's where The Boys have been hanging ever since they got back in town!

People regularly send me the two funniest things in the world: pictures of tall folks standing next to short folks and videos of dudes getting hit in the nuts.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

why would we ever turn on her, it's the Sky who suck.
sabreenajm.bsky.social
I love how much Sky fans still ride for Kah.

What do you even do about A'ja

"girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa" is somehow a dumber lie than 8 year olds on a school bus saying they know about secret pokemon from their uncle who works at Nintendo

I'm all for a grindy RPG strong boy fantasy game, I just hate those mechanics in a roguelite. I think the genre is best when it rewards really good gameplay, and would rather see a Casual setting that makes a hard roguelike more accessible than a resource grind blocking progression.
troyponce.bsky.social
Yeah, the right balance point for me is still Dead Cells. Unolocking additional healing and gold to start each run is meaningful, but also, give me a fresh save file and I'll clear the first three difficulties within five runs because good gameplay works and resource grinding doesn't.

This is exactly why I grew to resent the first game, nearly skipped the sequel, and wish I had stuck to that conviction.

Largely, you do not beat Hades because you got really good at it. You beat Hades because you played for long enough to unlock most of the permanent upgrades, which is a criticism I'd make about almost any roguelite with hardcore meta progression. And what you're left with is a hundred pointless runs

I'm not saying Predators is the second best Predator, but if someone wanted to argue that I'd hear them out.
troyponce.bsky.social
It's a gory, r rated Shane Black action comedy. It's fine!

There is no such thing as a bad Predator movie.
mazerat.bsky.social
Predator? It's had a resurgence lately but there were 30+ years of awful films between Predator 2 and Prey.

The Smashing Machine probably flopped on its own merits but you gotta love the hubris of thinking "let's launch this indie drama against a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie" and ALSO "the generic star power of our lead will get mainstream audiences the same weekend as a Taylor Swift album launch"

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

I saw someone panicking that advancing AI generated video will be the end of political reality. Didn't want to be rude but like... I wish it was a technology problem and not that people with power willingly choose to evacuate a shared reality.

The Oregon Republican Party tried to help Donald Trump make the case for military intervention in Portland with an image of a fiery protest — but since Portland is calm, they had to fabricate one by merging old photos of police in Ecuador and protesters in Brazil www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

[visibly drunk Pete Hegseth talking to Jesse Watters]: Troops do Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday. Four times a week. Deadliest force on earth.

[Miller, in front of a mirror with no reflection]: YOU CANNOT WORK OUT EIGHT DAYS IN TWO WEEKS, THE MATH DOES NOT ADD UP TO FOURTEEN WORDS I MEAN DAYS
troyponce.bsky.social
A potentially useful way to obstruct the worst elements of the Trump administration is goading Hegseth and Miller into an argument about if you should exercise every other day and how many times a week that means you're working out. That'll keep 'em busy for a week.
