You cannot overstate how startling it is to see a politician just say the thing with clarity and poise. No fearful hemming. No overwrought qualifying down til it’s meaningless. No lingering sense that there is a loyalty to a donor class or an ideology of stasis that they’d never admit to.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

the perennial "is this a good replacement for twitter / can it become as big as twitter" discussion is so confused. hominids became bipedal about 7 million years ago. for most of the time since we did not have microblogging. it's not a necessity it's a habit, if it all goes away that's fine

In a sane world, Kelowna’s vacancy rate hitting almost 7% would have lead to an even further drop in rent prices. Instead, it’s just a gambit to let Airbnb further encroach into the community: www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna...

As expected, Kelowna city council has given staff the green light to begin lobbying efforts with the province for an early opt-out of short-term rental legislation.
