One of our guys had no real primary school education, rudimentary literacy 2years ago has just been accepted to Edith Cowan Uni to study medicine. His dream is to be a gp on country. He is the fifth one of us to begin a degree. We have a lawyer,engineer,master builder,ecologist and now a doctor.

Something erratic from the west of Tasmania :)

My grandsons pretending to hold up an interesting perched erratic. A boulder left on top of another larger one by the glacier that made them both...

A close up look at the conglomerate all the erratics were made of. Generally reddish background rock with many lumps of red, white and grey quartz within.

This towering erratic had meter wide scrape marks from the glacier that left it here. It was twisted and scoured by the ice. An extraordinary shape that looked like it should fall over.

It’s 185 years to the day since a man called Thomas O’Conor wrote a report about a stone figure on a church in Kiltinane, County Tipperary. This wouldn’t be especially notable if we didn’t also consider what the statue looked like, because this was the first written use of the term Sheela-na-gig

The Kiltinane church Sheela Na Gig – a strange, naked, stone female figure, with one hand raised, and the other holding open her vulva. The stone was actually sideways when she was found, but it's easier to see her and her... features this way
