Victorian authors are the worst in history. Renowned literature from this period ranges from borderline to outrageously unreadable.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

"The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage," (2015) by Sydney Padua. It's a loving steampunky graphic novel fanfic about the founders of Computer Science and Engineering.

It's been a while, so I forget if Isambard Kingdom Brunel makes an appearance...

It's a very MBA-brained way to look at the world -- EVERYTHING must originate at the top and be pushed downwards, because the top is where the work* happens and all ideas come from.

* MBAs define 'work' as 'time spent in meetings'. See also, Hegseth's pep rally.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Suddenly seeing so many posts affirming that Sun Tzu's "Art of War" is a remedial leadership primer directed at failsons finding themselves in a position of military command.

Why?

Did Kegseth assign it as required reading for his "No Fatties" book club?

I'm confusion.

Me: *Regaling my spouse with the latest episode of 'shit RFK said'*

My Spouse: Can you just assume I know what he sounds like, and stop doing the voice?

Me: But... my art!

Same.

Fun story that the GOP may not have heard: It's not simply a weird/European spelling of the word 'Noble', there actually WAS a guy named 'Nobel'! He endowed the prize in his will, that's why it's named after him.

Hypothetically, ANY wealthy guy concerned about his legacy could do the same.

I don't think Kissinger's top spot is in danger, but seems like this is going to make the list of biggest Peace Prize whiffs.

All the most serious governments and medical experts devote their time to talking about a Thing they saw on TikTok.

RFK Jr: "Somebody showed me a TikTok video of a pregnant woman at 8 months pregnant -- she's an associate professor at the Columbia Medical School -- and she is saying 'F Trump' and gobbling Tylenol with her baby in her placenta. The level of Trump Derangement Syndrome is now a pathology."

Doritos on a sandwich. I think in New England it's a considered a niche/perverse thing to do potato chips? Fuck that. Doritos.

(The first time I did this in front of my spouse they looked at me cockeyed and in a neutral tone said "Oh, you're one of those...")

Recent deep dives by Behind The Bastards and Last Podcast On The Left have really highlighted how the nazi high command was a bunch of dweebs. Absolute incompetents and losers who failed upwards in a leadership vacuum created by anti-communist reactionary politics.

Watched "Another Simple Favor." Good movie, over the top ridiculous.

One nit: There's a scene where Anna Kendrick demonstrates she can hold her breath for at least 2m30s, but it never comes up again. Wtf? Anton Chekov is so mad at ya'll.
