The end of FY 2025 is coming, and #OMB appears perfectly content to use us as targets. We are not their chess pieces. We serve our PIs. We are here in our personal capacities. Follow the #NIH.
I sadly will not attend #ARM2026 (limited civil service travel). If you want to nominate a colleague for any awards for health services, policy, and systems research, check this out and name someone! #hspr #hpsr #hpss

I miss having Dr. Grothaus around the office. I thank him, Dr. Chou, Dr. Pariyadath, and Dr. Romberg for their service. It was never about "efficiency." The US is losing more money by treating the federal workforce poorly. #sciencemakesAmericagreat

Replacing the US child vaccine schedule with Denmark’s schedule is negligence, writes @drdemetre.bsky.social

“When a jet engine fails at 30,000 feet, it’s not the manual writer who pays the price. It’s the passengers — in this case, America’s children.”

Opinion | The U.S. vaccine schedule is a jet engine. Denmark’s is a toy plane.
Replacing the U.S. vaccine schedule with one like Denmark’s would be negligence.

I come back from my winter PTO and day one Congress drops the text of a minibus. The dashboard has been updated with the Senate Homeland numbers, and all the info in the CJS-Int-E&W minibus. A House vote is scheduled tomorrow night, and Senate likely later this week.

I'm reading this, and with time series analyses to illustrate trends, what explains the differences in outcomes between patients in community care versus those in VAs? I expect patients in ICUs are sicker than the general population; I'd like to know whether distance to VA centers affect outcomes.
From 2019 to 2023, #Veterans receiving ICU care in community settings experienced slightly higher risk-adjusted mortality and increased resource intensity compared to VA medical centers. ja.ma/49DHRly

VP Rodriguez cut a deal. With Maduro gone she’ll deal to get sanctions relief. She’ll be publicly defiant, but that’s for show. She’s a pragmatist. Meanwhile, the awful Venezuelan regime will continue, just under new management.

#NIH Director, Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharya, has worked with ESI. He and colleagues benefited from such programs. We must hold him accountable so that ESI funding remains.

We need to support early stage investigators. This is the greatest ROI the country can have. #NIH
NIH funding is like pizza 🍕. Usually, the NIH gives many researchers a slice of the pie, but this year they decided to just give a few researchers the whole pie. The data show that, disproportionately, early career researchers went hungry. We need Congress to stop NIH multi-year funding mandates.
A Trump administration change to how the National Institutes of Health awards grants has sharply reduced early-stage investigators’ odds of securing funding, new data from the agency show. Teamed up with @aniloza.bsky.social for this @statnews.com story
