Sarah J. Garnet (July 31, 1831 – September 17, 1911) was an educator and suffragist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She began her career teaching at the African Free School in Williamsburg in 1854 and became the first Black female principal in the NYC public school system nine years later.

Federation of Nurses/UFT members who are registered professional nurses employed by VNS Health ratified a contract that provides a 12% compounded pay increase over two years, more money for experience and certification differentials and improvements to scheduling and the retirement health package.

On Sunday, PS 48 in the Bronx hosted the 22nd annual @aft.org Reading Opens the World Literacy Festival. With our partners, we were able to give away over 30,000 free books to students, families and educators.
