URGENT BOLLARD ALERT.

SDOT is going to the Pike Place Market Historical Commission next Wednesday to get initial guidance on the "physical protective barriers" planned ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The board is getting its temperature taken on a "hybrid approach" of bollards and vehicle barricades.

Great news: Julia Reed is reintroducing the presumed liability bill this session (it was HB 1518 last session). The new bill will be slightly narrower in scope. If passed, drivers will be presumed at fault if they collide with a pedestrian or cyclist in a bike lane, crosswalk, or intersection.

The quickest way to crank out pedestrian refuge islands would be for the elected officials to provide a steady annual budget for in-house staff to design & construct the islands
We did that in LA for Vision Zero for a while
The key to making it work is long term local funding & ability to hire

The Race the L8 videos also make it clear that the drivers are losing too. We've created a road so bad that drivers in real cars lose to a toy car on the sidewalk.

A reminder that Mayor Bruce Harrell controls both the police department that's refusing to charge in this hit and run and the parks department that's failing to make the street safe.
"Fun" update on the hit and run on LWB. The cops know who did it and aren't going to charge them.

Love our "partners in vision zero".

Today an escaped fugitive walked out of custody and took a train to my neighborhood and cops did nothing to apprehend him, but they DID spend the afternoon patrolling the queer beach and harassing trans people over their clothing
HAPPENING NOW: Seattle Police Departments Officers at Denny Blaine telling people to get dressed. One person banned from the beach for a week, according to one person on the ground.
