Movim (movim.eu) on web might be the best so far? It comes with a blogging thing I am unsure about but group dms are fully supported, you can post and see animated stuff, OMEMO is supported and supposedly voice/video calls even work.

Investigating XMPP clients: Gajim comes with OMEMO encryption out of the box, Psi+ seemingly doesn't, UI and other features seem more generally familiar on Gajim and it has an understandable "create account on one of these public servers" sign up

I think what I'd love is a p2p chat program where I can talk to people, send images, do/receive file transfers, make group dms, play some small games, all in a way that's secure, portable, understandable and free from having to mess with servers

The answer as to what to do about discord is rough. There is no perfect alternative. I hope we can organize something with open protocols like IRC/XMPP, if there is one thing I'm certain of, we need something a large company can't take away from us.

Sometimes I sense this unspoken consensus that 3d is a low kind of art form (kind of like how pop is seen within music) and a small mission of mine is to imbue so much within my work that no one could ever ignore its value

Though my next college semester is starting, I can at least look forward to eating more cheese bread and doing gamedev on weak computers.

I think the popularity of running doom in unusual places is proving they can run a game with available source code that is a cultural touchstone. I wish more people from the indie scene recognized this, I can only name some examples like VVVVVV, stuff from blendo games
