[Me: "Try to pass any law, anywhere, that affects his bottom line, and you'll see how 'liberal' he is."]

Exactly!

Well, it's that, for sure, but it's broader. Used to be, "elite" meant power, $$ and influence. Now, it's MAGA code for educated. Doesn't matter if you're a BA/master's making $40K in a local government job or a Ph.D. adjunct with no benefits. If you're educated and know stuff, you're elite/elitist.

The way the word elites has become devoid of all meaning is interesting. It’s a placeholder for “someone I don’t like” and it fascinates me that the people who use it most are wealthy, went to “elite” schools and hold positions of power. Look in the damn mirror. You’re talking about yourself.

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.
Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.

Did you mean Ivins (Molly) and Richards (Ann)? Those three do indeed make up for a multitude of Texas' sins

Remember in 2000 when Al Gore was repeatedly misquoted as having said he invented the internet and that was seen the eyes of many as disqualifying him from office? Simpler times. Today, Trump makes up lies equivalent to "I invented the internet" 30 times a week and no one bats an eye. Good job media

Yeah, I don't remember the exact percentages, but those with no criminal record at all were something like 75% and those with violent crimes in their background were in the low single digits. No way they can legitimately claim they're targeting the "worst of the worst."

There's a clear winner (loser) in that contest, Trump, but it's still a contest. GWB's been given more of a pass than he deserves, thanks to DJT. It's one thing to f*** up crises thrust upon you, it's another to create new ones. Some "mistakes" are quite deliberate and avoidable, Iraq for one.

Because the juvenile high school clique media thought Gore was a " smarty pants" and they wanted to have a beer with the jock.

"To be fair, she might just want to fuck Trump."

Now, THAT does qualify as "hideously unnatural."🤮

And he/she nominates judicial candidates, which have to be confirmed by the counter majoritarian Senate. Tyranny of the minority in all three branches, esp. since the House is capped at 435 plus at least 1 rep per state and, therefore, isn't strictly proportional anymore.

Less than 600K in WY. The worst is that in the House, CA is STILL shortchanged by the 435 cap + requirement of at least 1 rep for each state. In proportion to WY, CA should have about 15 more reps than it does. The 1 tiny piece of majoritarian rule in our system, and it isn't as advertised either.

Evangelical Christians. Once they figured out his brand was a bit different from theirs, they soured on him. What's really wild, G. Wallace won 5 states in the Deep South when he ran as an independent in '68, with 13.5% of the vote, while Perot with 19% in '92 didn't win a single electoral vote.

for FDR and LBJ and narrowly voted Truman in '48 but otherwise voted GOP until Bill Clinton. Pete Wilson had just assumed the governorship and quit his Senate seat about the time we left in '91. Prop 187 was '94? Things do change, even politics. Coming from AL, I was just happy to see 2 parties.

When I lived in CA in the late 1980s/very early '90s, there was a GOP governor on his second term, 1 GOP senator, and my area's congressman was a Republican (seat later won by Adam Schiff). CA voted Bush Sr. in '88, Reagan twice, Ford, Nixon all 3 times he ran, Ike twice. CA joined the landslides

It was designed to last 2 years. It didn't even last the year. Something like Dec to Sept. Approval near 80% in Dec. 1973 fell to 42% in 3 months, when you started to see bills introduced in Congress to repeal it. One of those "Be careful what you wish for" moments.

I remember the bad optics in the House, with Newt Gingrich having to step down as speaker since he was cheating on wife no. 2 w/wife No. 3, and his heir apparent, Bob Livingston, was also cheating on his wife. So they settled on dull, boring ... Denny Hastert, who turned out to be a child molester.
