Professor Florence Ashley was placed on (non-disciplinary) leave by the University of Alberta because of CK social media posts.

This is a blatant violation of academic freedom in Canada. CAUT should be examining censuring UA for this violation.

Florence Ashley
I was shocked when the University of Alberta administration informed me, one of its law professors, that I was being placed on non-disciplinary leave for my social media comments in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination—comments that unquestionably fall within the scope of academic freedom and freedom of expression. I know that many others have been placed on leave, disciplined, or fired for their comments, and feel compelled to speak up in light of my firm belief that the health of a democratic society depends upon its protection of academic freedom and freedom of expression.

Excellent reporting from Heated and Atmos.

It looks like some of the biggest investors in the anti-trans movement are fossil fuel billionaires who are trying to use trans issues to ensure that Republicans pass policies favorable to their industry.

Fossil fuel billionaires are bankrolling the anti-trans movement
An investigation shared exclusively with Atmos and HEATED finds that 80% of anti-trans organizations receive fossil fuel funding.

Excited to receive a copy of the book Power Shift, edited by @imreszeman.bsky.social and Jennifer Wenzel, with a text by me on "Class." I wrote it in 2020-2021, in the middle of signing union cards, covid, and the weird lull in emissions. I feel like a lot of that is in the chapter. Full info below!

if biden gets a single day of treatment in a hospital for his cancer, he'll have enjoyed what he denied thousands of Palestinians with cancer over the last year and a half, because he insidiously helped israel destroy every cancer treatment facility and virtually every healthcare facility in Gaza.

Goodbye Joshua Clover, critic and poet, a singular brilliance who made good trouble. (And maybe a little of the bad kind.) The world shrinks and grows duller immediately with this shocking news. I feel lucky I knew you, and ache for those who knew you better. And who the fuck *is Mick Jagger?
