The reasons for less public protesting … I can name more than one.
I understand that, and I sympathise. I will be in a similar boat if the Reform Party wins the next UK election.
I do, however, see much less public protesting than in other countries (like the Eastern bloc countries, for example, whose numbers were enough to bring down authoritarian governments
