Then onto the Act of Remembrance at Lambourn War Memorial.
I presided and preached at All Saints' Church East Garston this morning. We began with the Act of Remembrance. What a beautiful display of poppies! #RemembranceSunday #CofEPeeps

Stunning illustration of mimicry! Common cuckoo eggs (top row) imitate the eggs of their host species (bottom row). The 30 October issue of Science explains this dazzling coevolution with genomic data — though I admit, it’s complex enough that I’d struggle to teach it! 🧪🌿🌎🦉

It's absolutely bonkers that end of life / palliative / hospice care isn't as much a part of the core NHS mission as maternity care. Yes, in theory you can die at home without needing medical support, just as in theory you can be born at home without it, but come on!
'The NAO report, @nao.org.uk, echoes what we witness every day: palliative and end-of-life care is in crisis.' Says Sam Royston, executive director for research and policy at Marie Curie, @mariecurieuk.bsky.social

Thanks. I've just identified it as Araneus quadratus! You can just see the 4 dark spots on its abdomen, hence the name!
I think this may be a Four Spot Orb Weaver Spider, Araneus quadratus. The colour of the abdomen varies greatly and may be pale yellow, green, orange, red, or dark red-brown. #tinyjoys
Can anyone ID this british #Spider found on the outside of my garden shed? @BBOWT

Our Lord did not become a man and die and rise again so this country could have a “coherent cultural identity” and I am also not at all convinced that God created human beings in all their diversity in order to sort themselves out into homogenous lumps.

University tuition fees in England to rise with inflation from 2026.

Student debt is £267bn, could double in a decade. Due to low wages unlikely to be repaid. Young people burdened.

Most European countries don't charge uni fees. England destroying social mobility. Must abolish tuition fees.

Bridget Phillipson confirmed the plans for the next two years, with fees to increase automatically after that.

There's going to be a new genre of AI-facilitated Darwin Awards, isn't there?

File this as a near-miss alongside the AI-generated book on foraging wild mushrooms, and unprepared hikers having to be rescued after following AI instructions up snowy mountains
One of the swimmers had used ChatGPT to consult the tide times: “I made the mistake of using ChatGPT for research to see when the low tide was."

So the church (C of E, anyway) has finally caught up with the very first moments of Christianity as a faith, in which women were the first witnesses and teachers.

Reading papers is a basic skill (and dare I say duty?) of scientists, and I include medical doctors in that group. Keeping abreast of the literature is a foundational part of our professions. There aren’t good shortcuts. In any case, reading papers regularly is fun.
