Or maybe it's a "VU!" for the Ten Win Vandy Commodores!

Either way, get out there Nashville!

TN has a lot work to do to improve childhood literacy, so I'm not sure why a small contingent would try to take over and undermine libraries. (source: Bush Foundation for Family Literacy)

Can't imagine why one would discourage people from recognizing #WorldAIDSday. So many fighters came together t to battle the #HIV crisis, I'd be happy if we saw their stories celebrated, more often, and more visibly. Here's one with personal connection from Wisconsin:
Protecting youth from HIV for three decades
Children’s Wisconsin has been on the leading edge of HIV care and prevention since 1991.

Don't love the idea of living through events that sound like they are pulled from a future Plainly Difficult video.
On Monday, The Boring Company's Steve Davis called the Music City Loop "amazingly safe" during a virtual town hall meeting. The same day, construction crews reportedly left the site due to safety and pay concerns.

Among the scariest moments of my intern year of residency, infants with pertussis was definitely near the top. The best defense for kids under two months old is to prevent exposure by making sure everyone in the family is up to date on TDaP.

In other news, everyone should go watch Drop Dead Gorgeous. Other people have mentioned this, but 1999 was an absolutely wild year in movies. The Matrix, Sixth Sense, The Iron Giant, Fight Club, Magnolia and the Blair Witch Project world ALL change their genres.

Alright, timeline cleanse for the weekend. One of my favorite things about Nashville is the close-up magic you can see at the House of Cards. Here is a very cool old video of an old legend of card tricks that should be watched by any magic nerd.

Just scanned the transcript of first interview with Senator Bill Cassidy since the CDC's credibility collapse: "Live is lived forward" may be a good mantra in recovery, but it abandons the accountability and responsibility I would expect from a physician and leader.

Initial reaction to CDC from @kkjetelina.bsky.social seems reasonable:

[1] General public: avoid the CDC website.
[2] Specifically be dubious of anything receiving attn from political operatives: vaccines, reproductive health, environmental science, or health equity.
One of CDC’s final blows. And what it means for you.

Fortunately, despite two recent outbreaks, contamination of infant formulas has been rare over the past three decades. Clostridium botulinum is a surprising pathogen, will be interesting to find root cause.
Recalled baby formula linked to a botulism outbreak may still be in some stores
A botulism outbreak that has sickened more than two dozen babies in 15 states has been linked to ByHeart formula sold nationwide. Here's what to know about it.

Confronting what happens to people who have been gripped by misinformation is overwhelming. And it's been on my mind a lot since graduating medical school. I've been thinking about this article a lot over the last two months. I highly recommend it.

As a board certified pediatrician, I share your frustration and disappointment. The framing used by this outlet is irresponsible, and part of a systemic problem that's made it hard for me to trust their work in other areas where I don't happen to have expertise.
It’s not “orthodoxy” he’s challenging. It’s the evidence. This has been extensively studied, and the results of the studies are very clear: VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM. Vaccines SAVE MANY LIVES.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

Just pulled up the new page HHS forced onto CDC website. It's more embarrassing than I imagined. Reminds me of when John Krakauer had some YouTube crank posting insane conspiracy theories about 'Into Thin Air' back last winter. Link for those not familiar:

Glad this was released quickly. I literally created this account to amplify this message. Among medical professionals, there is no controversy. There is consensus. There is similar agreement about the value of vaccines in public health and about Bear Bryant being a pretty good football coach.
