This view looks eastward across the broad, quiet corridor of the Flathead River, where water, forest, and regrowth form a layered foreground beneath the stark geometry of the mountains beyond. The river itself is mostly hidden, suggested more than seen—its presence revealed by reflective wetlands, darkened channels, and the softened edges of grasses and young willows gathering moisture along the floodplain. The lower slopes are dominated by a dense sweep of young conifers, their fresh green color marking a landscape in recovery. Interspersed among them stand pale snags and blackened trunks—remnants of earlier fire—rising like quiet markers of time and disturbance. Rather than appearing damaged, the forest feels active and transitional, its new growth knitting together past and present. Beyond the forested bench, Long Knife Mountain rises sharply, its pale stone catching diffuse light beneath the cloud cover. The mountain’s face is angular and ribbed, with vertical lines and broken ledges that give it a sculpted, almost architectural presence. After living on my little country lane for 27 years, today is the last day I will walk Harlow 🐶 out in the orchard behind our house. It has been the inspiration for many of my nature photos. Moving is bittersweet. Goodbyes are difficult but new adventures lie ahead. We will visit here again soon.💔🥲🥹
