Ahh that's very helpful, thanks. So there are different kinds of roles. Based on what the candidate told me, this would be more like a primary role (which is somewhat strange to me - I would think that the main supervisors should be from the same university).

For background, "dissertation committee" in Helsinki means sort of an oversight role, where you meet the candidate once a year to discuss how it's going with their supervisors etc.

I've been asked to serve on the dissertation committee of someone doing a PhD at a US university.

I'm a little confused. It seems almost like the role of a supervisor in Finland (or the UK). Yet it's unpaid(?).

Anyone care to explain how this works?

But: our paper, "Toward an Agency Turn in Animal Law", co-authored with Paulina Siemieniec, was just accepted by the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies!

Hieno aloite mutta en ole varma miten paljon on paukkuja (perhevapaalla).

Minusta kysymyksessä on jossain määrin nyansseja. Esim. jos ilmastonmuutos-sana pitää poistaa hakuilmoituksesta, mutta käytännössä saa tutkia ilmastonmuutosta, niin onkohan se vielä syy lopettaa koko ohjelma. 🤔
