Astonshing photograph. Absolutely brilliant
Surely those are scales not feathers? And that tail looks fishy too. Something almost prehistoric about Cormorants and their gorgeous feathers. Taken on the River Taff, Forest Farm Nature Reserve. 26/11/25. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #nature #wildlife

"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

Invigilating an exam. One student finished early (but couldn't leave due to exam regs).

This was on the 'scrap' sheet they can use but have to hand in at the end.

They know me so well.

In case you were wondering if society is doomed.
The real and true story of why Police Squad (the TV series Naked Gun was based on and easily the funniest tv show of its time) was canceled is legitimately insane and one of the most egregious examples of TV malpractice I’ve ever heard:

If you like to gamble
I tell you, I'm your man
You win some, lose some
It's all the same to me

I don't share your greed

And you may find yourself living in Vatican City
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large popemobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful palace, with a beautiful nun
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

My sister said this was Heavy Metal when she came into my room as I was listening to the copy I'd recorded of a mate's vinyl (TDK C120 on crap tape machine)

I thought "What is this 'Heavy Metal' of which you speak?" and the rest is history.

In the meantime may I strongly recommend @markurban.bsky.social's Tank. Excellent history that spans the development and use of Tanks from WWI onwards.

I've been listening to it on audio book, but now I have to get a physical copy so I can really concentrate on it.

Got home last night and couldn't get my key to work. My wife started making jokes about being too drunk to use a door lock.

Anyway she went out this morning and couldn't get her key to work either.

Spent some time last night having a drunken conversation with a Hungarian bloke about the first Hungarian RPG. The system was created by someone translating an illegal copy of D&D.

Some interesting bits, but also some that are a bit crazy, to say the least.

Early as usual I took a walk.

Started with Hatton Gardens which is a truly bizarre street where every shop sells diamonds and the shopkeepers stand outside their front door.

Wandered on to an estate and found this rather odd "sitting room" perched on girders for no apparent reason.
