6. Ganja & Hess (1973)

An anthropologist cursed with immortality finds an unlikely partner in his search for answers. One of the best experimental 70s films, starring Night of the Living Dead's Duane Jones, and tough to find uncut until very recently

The first American vampire story, short and well worth reading to get a richer understanding of the genre

11. Vampire Princess Miyu (1988)

A spiritualist tracks Miyu across Japan, driven by obsession and her past
One of the best horror anime and one of the best OVAs of the 80s. Eerie and melancholy, good balance between episodic and serial narrative in just 4 episodes

fsn: i can't take crest worms seeiously because i just think of that meme:
but weve seen non mages use skills that are either better or just as useful (onmyoji, executioners, shiro, vampire renfields, etc) WITHOUT the physical/emotional pain/strain mages endure

or having to deal with the association or church

my question is: why didnt kiritsugi send shiro to ryudou?
im no geneticist or biologist but by that logic that means over time (and mot a very long time either), youll either end up with 1 family with ALL the skills or several families with no circuits like the makiri
like if only 1 child can inherit magic and it isnt worth teaching the others, that means youve out all your eggs in one basket and the only way to acquire more circuits is through artificial means or marriage

which means either the mage pop is constantly dividing or skills weaken over time

like the way magic circuits work and given the "teaching/torture" method of magic, im surprised mages havent gone extinct or rather, going extinct faster

fsn: im starting to see why mages arent the focus in the greater fate franchise vs servants, vampires, etc cause....they kinda suck??

and the burnout analogy may be accidental or on purpose but i think if fsn *wasnt* urban fantasy, if it took place in our reality...people would see it differently

how do you think fujimura would react if she knew shirou was cutting himself to cope with the stress of *everything* in heavens feel?
its jarring when i seqrch fsn lore n such cause i get confused about details and i run into posts about how cool/powerful shirou is and they always have pics or clips and hes injured in every single one of them

its like watching a company praise their best worker who then dies from burnout
like at best shirou gets a free heal after fucking up his body and/or dying but that comes at the cost of others, typically that route's love interest. heavens feel makes it blatant that shirou just doesnt know what else to do when cornered *but* harm himself

also this may be a cultural thing but shirou is constantly self harming. something that other characters are aware of and its weird how fem characters do the same and are stopped but only in ceetsin routes does shirou get "help"

shirous a latchkey kid and wasnt properly socialized. supposedly he went to school with people for a long time but he certainly doesnt behave that way. he acts like someone who lived as a heemit and only started leaving the house 4 years ago. isolated in his own reality
