The size of the circles corresponds with how frequently each port/place/country (as named in each policy) appeared in her portfolio Rue Quincampoix in central Paris, where the Royal Insurance Chamber and the Royal Insurance Company were based. These are explored in my book, "Privilege, Economy and State in Old Regime France". The Royal Insurance Company was located in the building immediately to the left of the image.

This often seems to benefit more affluent areas. Take Burnley. Most homes cost £125,000 and are in the lowest band A. They pay roughly £1,337 a year in council tax.

Compare that to Westminster, where the average house price is just shy of £1mn. They pay an average £1,057.

#Twitterstorians am I the only one who keeps an email folder called “Student Excuse Hall of Fame”? Mine goes back to 1997. Admission standards are high : not quite 50 in 28 years. Dead Grandmothers need not apply. Still at #1: skipping class in hiding from an arrest warrant for parking tickets. 🤔

One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way. What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money. Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight. To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Today the EU parliament voted to ban the word burger if they are made with plant protein, instead of animal protein. 🤦🏻‍♀️
 
They claim it’s to stop consumers being ‘confused between meat and plant products’ - solving a problem that nobody had!
 
This new rule leaves a bad taste in the mouth…

The meat industry's ability to (1) weaponise the discourse on UPFs against meat alternatives (while somehow leaving the meat industry itself entirely untouched) and (2) impose tedious obstacles like this will one day be case studies in understanding the West's failure to reduce its carbon emissions

A few observations:

1. This will take a while to filter through to the consumer downstream. Don't expect prices in the supermarket to be coming down anytime soon.

2. This crisis has brought into focus the institutional inequities of the cocoa market, but have the necessary lessons been learned?

I know this is uncomfortable to admit, but there is a small area in England's second city where people are just not integrated with the rest of society. Many of them hold views that arguably go against British values.
