Even if SF ended up with the Builder’s Remedy, how many parcels near the ocean could you actually build a tower on? I can only think of a handful of examples (a few on Sloat, the Safeway), but the vast majority are still just standard small SF lots. The Builder’s Remedy doesn’t make lots bigger

It’s natural to have fears. It’s disappointing that our journalism which should exist to help dispel fact from fiction plays into that

This is an irresponsible graphic. Tell me where in the Family Zoning Plan the heights are like that on Ocean Beach. You can’t because it’s pure imagination. The vast majority of the parcels remain 40 feet. Most people won’t get past the scary headline/picture www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/r...

Many nations that allow midrise single-stair apartment buildings have a far better fire safety record than the U.S. The codes promulgated by the #NFPA haven't delivered.

The #NFPA should try to learn from nations that achieve better fire safety, instead of attacking those nations' code officials.
This chart compares fire fatality rates in nations around the world. Purple dots (provided by @holz-bau.bsky.social) indicate nations that allow single-stair apartment buildings up to at least 4 stories.

Dropped my ballot off at City Hall yesterday, already got the message it’s been received and counted. Don’t forget to turn in those ballots and vote yes on 50. It’s literally the only question, let’s get this done

"...since San Francisco has added little housing since the pandemic began, the city seems to be exemplifying a common warning of housing advocates: when demand comes back, so do the prices."

I'm shocked. This is my shocked face: 🤦🏽‍♂️
S.F. rent surge is outpacing every big U.S. city. Here’s what’s driving the increase
San Francisco rentals are leasing faster and pricing higher than they have at any point since the pandemic.

Our rents are spiking because it turns out people leaving during COVID was not a durable strategy for long-term affordability. Who knew? If we want our rents to stay flat (or, dare to dream, fall), we need to build more homes www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...

Trump 2.0 has really exposed how brittle and broken the West Coast states' tax systems are. WA, OR, and CA all have a 1% property tax cap. WA has a sales tax but no income tax; OR has an income tax but no sales tax. It is not possible to effectively resist Trump without fixing these tax systems.

The news has sent counties throughout California into a panic. The state is bracing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars for permanent housing, which is the one thing experts agree on as the most effective way to solve homelessness. https://cal.news/4nBKuZI
