ok so i got some *more* constructive criticism from bird artists on my attempts at drawing birds. many said the legs weren’t realistic enough and i suspect they were right. i think i finally got it in this year’s calendar though, lemme know what you think

I dunno the one where Han and Chewie get so pissed off that someone tried to hire them to transport slaves that they kick their asses and then go kick their bosses' asses is p good

I was on the latest episode of Button Mash to talk about all the surprise Steam hits of 2025, and how you just can't predict the year in gaming without leaving a few blank spots for the surprise REPOs and Schedule 1s of the world.
I also highly recommend this, though I'm a bit biased: open.spotify.com/episode/4mVS...

Did I know I was going to arrive at the ultimatum "gamers rise up" when I started writing about how putrid this ad is? No, that would be embarrassing. But the thing is we all in our hearts know a goat when we see one and they can't take that

Still a little tinkering to do, but I've been cooking up a new design for Read Only Memo 😎
The future of the past
How will the Analogue 3D, the new Steam Machine and Steam Frame, and the SuperStation One impact the hobby of emulation?

Poems are now battlefields.
"Our society might have stumbled into the most embarrassing possible cyberpunk dystopia, but—as of today—it's at least one in which wordwizards who can mesmerize the machine mind with canny verse and potent turns of phrase are now a pressing cybersecurity threat."

Tangential, but my partner and I have speculated that there are a lot of hybrid Thai/Vietnamese restaurants in the US because Thai food got some cultural penetration earlier, so Vietnamese immigrants could open restaurants and kinda backdoor their food in with a safety net back in the '70s/'80s

Really enjoyed this writeup from @kimimithegameeatingshemonster.com about difficulty. One of the greatest epiphanies I had playing games was emulating Contra Hard Corps (the best Contra) and realizing that how hard a game is and how rich a challenge it is are two related but very distinct things.
There's a difference between hard games and hardcore ones, and the distinction matters
True skill is about more than learning how to win, and true challenge is about more than an insurmountable obstacle.

Good to know! I'm probably unfairly extrapolating from past experiences of moving stuff over network via Windows File Explorer which didn't even seem to fully saturate possible HDD read speeds

I was looking at a BenQ RD240Q, which is a 2560x1600 (my main is a 2560x1440) so I guess that would be better in that regard! But it has some drawbacks: way bulkier, only 60Hz...

Decided I want to go back to a vertical second monitor and it's gotta be 16:10. The few options closer to square are just too pricey. So I pick out this Asus model and... I guess it's not actually for sale yet??
