Husband, girl dad, numbers guy. Cities should be car-optional. Pro-bus, pro-bike, pro-immigrant, pro-housing.

These smart, walkable, mixed-use skeets are mine alone, and will veer into economics, sports, and Nashville.
From @jayparsons.bsky.social on X:

In the last 5 years Central Nashville added 60% more apartments.

The result: renters getting leasing concessions from apartments, real rent costs are down, and greater Nashville's rental housing market has seen a lot less cost growth than for-sale housing.

My corporate cafeteria does Taco Tuesday 52 weeks a year because it's so popular. It's a good start, but the people demand more than Woke 0.

WaPo editorial board when TX imposes a legislative gerrymander: don't freak out guys! Not a threat to democracy!

When VA responds to TX with *referendum* on their own gerrymander: brass-knuckled hypocrisy, anti-democratic gamesmanship.

There is hypocrisy here, all right, but not from VA.

Nashville’s vibrant downtown.

(it’s all car infrastructure)
The NDP adopting a street in part of the city that they are responsible for running the bid is incredibly funny and dumb. They get tax dollars to clean. This isn’t the same thing as an org volunteering to clean it a few times a year!

EXCLUSIVE: Terez Metry was 13 when her family fled to Tennessee from Egypt in 2011. Then, they left her behind. She only recently discovered she had an order of removal from 2011. But she was following the legal path to citizenship. On Monday, at a routine DHS meeting, Metry was detained.

State of Tennessee out here with executive orders to us state resources to clear non-state roads with state resources but still haven’t cleared fallen trees off the state highway in front of the state capitol building.

My take: if Nashville Metro Council had passed NEST bills (legalizing 4-plexes in half the county, plus duplex zoning for the rest of the county), Tennessee would be adding an additional congressional district too.
With new census population estimates out today, here’s what the 2030 reapportionment would look like using the 5-year trend line.

Overall, remarkably stable with projections from last year. Big change is Florida gets only 3 rather than 4 seats.

Now that @nashvillemco.bsky.social has approved new zoning districts designed to allow additional homes at a neighborhood scale, it's time for Nashville's Planning department @metronashplan.bsky.social to recommend zoning map changes to allow Nashville to meet its demand for 90k-110k new homes.

I will knock doors for Pritzker for President if his state government could even get the feds to launch twice-a-day trains from Nashville to Chicago, let alone hourly trains.

Salting the sidewalk at bus stops is one of those little things that may seem either inconsequential OR obvious depending on your POV.

To me, it demonstrates an intentional, well-funded transit organization who is focused on delivering value for its riders. Shoutout WeGo.
WeGo crews have already been out applying salt at bus stops, and will continue to treat them throughout the weekend.

However, be cautious walking to stops because plowing operations often push big snow piles up onto the sidewalks, creating hazardous conditions.

Actual bus commute home today:
15 minute walk, 15 minutes bus, 3 minute walk

Car commute home per Google Maps: 22 minute drive

Got in a bonus 15 minutes of walking through a vibrant downtown; trade off was just riding in a public bus vs of driving myself through traffic in a private car.
