If I had laser hair, I sure wouldn’t want it removed. I’d be so psyched.

I am very excited for a mayor who has thousands of Citi Bike miles under his belt.

You know what, let's do the Annual Mister Global National Costume thread tonight after all. Usual rules apply - this is all in fun, this isn't about the contestants looks or making fun of them, it's about the costumes and appreciating them (or, you know, making fun of them...)

I think there are a lot of parallel imports from Japan.

This is the story of cars generally. We could easily have cars that do 100kms/litre, but for a while lot of reasons, mostly involving money, that's not what has been prioritised.

I hope they go bust and get bought out by BYD

And they still don't have a phev Hilux. Do they have any plugin hybrids in oz?
For the company that basically invented hybrid powertrains, it's big wtf energy.

And they're continuing to dick around

That's good to hear. Some people don't seem to get good advice and/or find it very difficult to make changes, and end up in a bad way.

Yeah, that's high. You'll have a lot of people in the emergency dept being very concerned with a number like that.
A lot of people are asymptomatic with high bp. ... Until suddenly they're not, but that's usually adverse effects from ignoring it for extended periods.

Also, I've seen a few people with blood pressures in the 190s recently, and heard of someone with a systolic BP in the 40s 😱. So while you don't want to go ignoring it, high/low bp is a relative concept.

Yeah, possibly. Getting older doesn't help either. Stiffening arteries and all that.
I should have said manufactured food as opposed to processed. Even (or especially) bread, has heaps of salt in it. You can easily hit half your daily sodium limit by eating a few slices of bread.

It really does say something when an article about reactions to a coal power plant continuing to operate says nothing about climate change, the existential threat it poses and the need to phase out oil, gas and coal.

This is a great piece of writing.

In my classroom, there is always a delay. Between question and answer. That space—the stutter, the pause, the gesture—is where actual teaching happens. Not in the bullet points or the Google Doc comments, but in the moment someone says, “I don’t know if this makes sense, but—” and suddenly it does.
Human Error Is the Point: On Teaching College During the Rise of AI - The Rumpus
My syllabus is a mess of half-remembered intentions. I re-use icebreakers that I know don’t work. I forget to grade the first assignment until Week Four. I write emails that begin with “So sorry for t...

I had a period of elevated BP a while ago, mostly due to stress and excess sodium i think. Seems to have normalised now.
It's quite amazing how much sodium is in processed food once you start paying attention.
wileyfuller.bsky.social
The fewer medicines you have to take the better, but yeah, if you really need one or two to manage an otherwise intractable condition, then so be it.
Good that your changes have helped. Did you cut down on sodium?

The fact Wong thinks she can just snark her way out of this is a sign of how normalised the relationships between politicians and lobbyists have become.

Like, of course the PM shouldn't be president of a registered lobby group that sells corporate members access to politicians? No shit??

Independent Senator David Pocock and Labor's Penny Wong clashed in Senate estimates yesterday over whether the Parliamentary Sports Club could be considered a lobby group, as reported in Crikey last week. The club is registered as such, and lists Responsible Wagering Australia as one of its clients.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Australian citizens have the right to return to Australia. Calling them 'Isis brides' does not change the law. They are Australian.
