I was diagnosed with #HIV in 1998, when I was 30.
Many of my friends had died of AIDS. I did not expect to live to 50.
I’m 58 now.
HIV treatment works.
Treatment also makes it impossible for me to pass HIV on during sex.
Ensure HIV treatment for all.
End HIV stigma.

Saint Munditia, patron saint of spinsters, died circa 310 AD, beheaded by a hatchet. She was transferred from the Roman catacombs in 1675 and put on display in Munich, her bones encased in a bejeweled shroud, her hands clasping a glass container of dried blood.

Olms (Proteus anguinus) look like you took an axolotl & stretched them out. 'Dachshund axolotls', if you will.

They're a cave-dwelling salamander that live deep under the Alps of Central Europe. When floods flushed them out to streams, they were described as 'baby dragons'.

And they lack eyes...

Just a murderous fungus having taken over a wasp and compelled it to die in a place advantageous to finding more victims. With its tiny spores floating off through the air in hopes of just one landing on an exoskeleton.. nothing in the rainforest wants anything to do with this little scene here…

New from me: We have entered an age of polio denialism. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
The anti-vax movement's wildest claim yet: Polio wasn't so bad
Add this to vaccines make you magnetic, cause AIDS, and measles is not a big deal.

Tonight, I got it off the needles, and I wove in all the ends, but I still need to wash it and block the ever loving bejesus out of it. But it's almost 10 pm so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Eel smuggling is a major problem today. But it's not new!

In 1463, London city officials arrested 9 Zeeland merchants who tried to slip 97 barrels of salted eels past customs at Billingsgate. They wanted to avoid import fees, but wound up facing a £40 fine.

Fun fact: By the 1880s, people were so worried about how rundown & shabby the White House bathrooms were, when President Garfield died (from an infection from assassin’s bullet 2 months earlier), rumors circulated that the true cause was poisoning by sewer gas from the White House's faulty toilets
