I write about games, anime, and other media. A lot of Bioware, flight combat sims, and agency in games chatter from me.

My Boku no Natsuyasumi piece is featured here!
Hoping to have this video out before the end of the month. It'll be more about documenting the end of Anthem trough my perspective and its community, and less about any claims as to why it failed.

New translation!

I’m happy to release proper manmade subtitles for a gorgeous piece of scientific filmmaking by one of Japan’s great documentary directors, Sumiko Haneda…The Cabbage Butterfly!

Come to learn about butterflies, leave with daydreams of the world.

Give it a watch!

The last few graphs of this really hit me, specifically about things "regressing" from a moment where a certain type of games crit felt truly viable. It still exists, I still make my attempts at such, but given who are the most dominate voices in the broader discourse, well, it doesn't feel great.

You know what they say. Not enough people have written about Spec Ops: The Line. Well, what if I wrote about it AND Ghost of Tsushima??? No? Okay, what if I also wrote about player agency. Would that surprise anyone?

a game I basically like despite how much it babe ruth points to the stands only to swing a strike lol
Code Vein 2's weak characters kill loftier ambitions, but a brisk pace keeps the soulslite combat lively

Been sorting my game collection lately. My parents are in the process of selling my childhood home and I'm in the process of moving too. Really trying to focus in on what I care to collect anymore. Less broad stuff. More single developers, like Bioware or Project Aces, or themes like aquatic games.

Hi folks, our little dog has become pretty sick pretty rapidly and we're staring down the barrel of some gnarly bills at the vet. Given that we've got a 3 week old baby, the timing is, uhh, not great. If you've got a couple quid to spare my KoFi is linked here

I and a few other folks were interviewed for this. It's important to have a little love in your heart even for games you think are bad and/or indicative of unhealthy trends in the industry. People worked hard on them and fans do exist despite popular sentiment. And ya know, preservation is good.

This job doesn't usually require you to get existential, but I've been thinking about artifacts we have to remember people/art that are gone by. I talked to Anthem fans before the shutdown and asked them what they had left of the game and a lot of them said they just had memories, and those fade.

Put a bunch of hours into Anthem the last two days before it died about an hour ago. Still don't care for it much at all, but it is a shame how that dev cycle went and ultimately ends with another live service game completely unplayable.
