Could be either. But given the immense surge of anti-censorship movements after everything that’s happened with the whole payment processors and OSA. Also that the bills were introduced and have basically not moved at all.

Given all that, I’m guessing lawmakers support it, but are scared right now.

If that's too much, don't not call. Just list the bills and tell them "don't you dare." But say something, please

I recently got a ring that says “this too shall pass.” It’s been of great comfort to remind myself of that fact; nothing is set in stone.

And eventually even the most devious plans start to fall apart.

To maintain stasis, whether that's maintaining our rights OR maintaining our oppression, takes *work*.

Oppressors never get to say, "it's over now, we win." It's never final.

The Kids Online Safety Act just got 18 more Senate sponsors due to Senator Blumenthal's new push (60 total). The passage percentage didn't change because a house version hasn't been introduced yet. People need to call their Senators and Representatives ASAP!

Right now, I don’t think it’s even out of committee yet. Really says something about how the public attitude changed from then till now.

I understand that it's discouraging that these battles come up again and again and that we never get to permanently just say "NO".

But if you want a silver lining, think about how frustrated that makes you feel. They're not the only ones who can do that. We can also refuse to stop asking.

A small victory! Chat Control has been tabled for now, but it can [and likely will] be brought up for vote again in December

In the meantime, EU citizens will need to continue pressuring their respective govts to oppose chat control

We're now finding out that as many as 70,000 people had their government IDs provided to prove their ages leaked by Discord. Like I wrote last week, this is an inherent risk (and made greater by a rushed process) of getting platforms to do age checks
