I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Remember that Farage was one of the laziest MEPs.
He rarely turned up for a vote.
I wonder what was so special about this one?😉

This has lost me thousands of pounds (not to mention book sales) and put me in a state of terror and panic. I urge anyone thinking of moving their list from Substack, or wanting to know more about how Substack works, to read it....
I'm not going back to Substack. I will continue to post my newsletters from Ghost. But I did have to get back in there, just to post this and let people who thought I'd vanished know about this utter nightmare: substack.com/home/post/p-...
An Explanation (Which I Would Be Very Grateful If You Took The Time To Read)

Found this old track of mine.

I wrote it for my mate who was writing a maze-based game. It was an interesting exercise, writing in different genres to achieve a specific goal.

The UK is a strongly pro-choice country with 86% of Britons wanting abortion to be legal in all or most cases. But the US anti-choice movement has been investing heavily into campaigns in Britain, and Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party seems to be support the interference.
The worrying rise of US anti-abortion rhetoric is in full force - how deep is Reform UK's involvement?
Money is pouring into anti-abortion campaigns in Britain, and it seems Nigel Farage’s party isn’t pushing back…

Why is Microsoft Outlook such an arsehole when it comes to setting up accounts that are slightly outside the norm.

I've just moved my wife's email address to a new email provider. But cannot add the new account because the old one has the same email address. Deleting the old account doesn't help

And in case you wanna say "no one is going to try and tell you you don't belong in a restroom", let me just point out that it happened to me JUST THREE WEEKS AGO

(but also trans people should have restroom access regardless. I'm just making noises because I'm perceived as cis and I'm semi famous).
It shouldn't matter but let me point out that I was born a woman, my passport says woman, and based on how I look I have a high risk of not being let into a bathroom
(my only saving grace is being short).
(it shouldn't matter because EVERYONE should have access to restroom regarless of gender)
This is what we have to see every day, while struggling for employment, healthcare, housing and being treated like human beings

If,all those years ago, someone had told me I'd be cheering on the guy who handed Trump his first presidency, I'd have snorted with derision.

Yet, here we are.

TIL the reason why Happisburgh in Norfolk is pronounced so differently from the spelling. I had always thought it was just Victorians adding extra letters to be fancy.

Turns out the name comes from the old English "Haep ingus burgh" or 'fortified place belonging to Haep'.

Here's my prediction:

The files, when they are public will show nothing we didn't know already.

Trump's supporters will wave their hands and explain it all away to themselves, and will vote him in again (using whatever vehicle he creates to achieve that).

Whole fucking thing makes me sick to my stomach. An abject fucking liar, a man who lies as easily as he fucking breathes, threatening an organisation which strives for truthfulness. And plastic patriots like the Mail and Farage urging him on. Jackels.

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

I caught Bohemian Rhapsody (the song!) on YouTube. Just a stupid reaction video "my 14 yr old daughter listens for the first time"

I have heard this track so, so many times. When i was a kid, it was on tv and radio perma play, more recently I've dissected to death.

But damn, it hits every time.

People will mock this. But something to note:

When Remembrance Day was introduced, this is EXACTLY what many British WW1 veterans did on it.

They would meet up with old friends and colleagues from their units. Talk. Laugh. Cry. Toast those not there and get joyously, and utterly shitfaced. /1

Delighted to say that an updated and expanded version of my series on one of the most extraordinary acts in aviation history will be running on The Up Front over the coming weeks.

And even better: it's now completely free to read.
In December 1941, Pan Am flight 18602 was trapped the wrong side of the Pacific by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

To get home, her civilian crew would need to do the near-impossible: circumnavigate the world in commercial seaplane.

In our new series, we tell tell their remarkable story.
