That writer guy you like. Bi, trans, polyamorous, slutty, neurodivergent, hot. Buy my book that explains why politics has gone weird. I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. https://linktr.ee/iheartpolitics

Hello new followers! I am trans and autistic but wrote a book that is about neither of those things so neither of those communities tend to know about it. It’s called I Heart Politics and it’s a good read, I promise

I know it is just the law and all that , but it still jars to see ‘Graham Linehan cleared of harassment’ when I think of just how much he has harassed (and spread lies about) friends of mine and never been shy of bothering me either .

I don't think "benefit fraud" as a category should exist at all. The amounts of money any individual gets in benefits are so comparatively small that nobody is going to go to the bother of claiming them unless they actually need them, whether or not they qualify by the letter of the rules.
Hot take maybe but I actually don’t give a shit about benefit fraud.

I give a shit about multimillionaires and billionaires existing and not paying tax on their actual wealth.

When I was monitoring FB etc groups around Brexit, the one thing pro and anti groups all had in common was racist & misogynistic memes and other posts about Diane Abbott. She was loathed by the centre and the right and whatever the reasons they gave if challenged, it was always misogynoir behind it
I think at this point if you're including Diane Abbott - a woman who has never held government office, has been a backbencher since 2020, and is scarcely a government ally - on your list of political wrongdoers, we all know exactly what your real concerns are

You could make practically every bus route in England free for the cost of extending the fuel duty cut.
Reeves says petrol is still expensive.

So the 5p cut in fuel duty will be extended until 2026, she says.

Great. So polluters get to continue to poison us. Yet EV drivers get penalised with pay per mile.

🙃

Climate change. What’s that?

“The Motability scheme was set up to protect the most vulnerable. Not to subsidise the lease on a Mercedes Benz,” Reeves says.

Misleading and nasty in equal measure.

Minor point. But this is the OBR saying that the briefing about income tax being dropped because of improved forecasts is bollocks.

It's IMO quite revealing that Rachel Reeves' section about school spending has more to say about 'Britain in the 90s' than 'England in the 2020s'.

I think there's an assumption that people will not notice that more of their real income keeps getting taxed and they're taking home less of their payrise because there isn't a month to month drop, and I just don't think that works unless you're getting a chunkier payrise, which they aren't.
I think that far too much weight is being placed on 'can you rules-lawyer your way through an interview about how you've put people's taxes up' and 'what will people actually experience' - if you're raising my taxes (you are), just raise them by enough to get out of the v tight 27-9 spending rounds!

the budget should be a publicly published document with footnotes and everyone — government MPs, opposition MPs, academics and journalists — should have to read the whole thing before commenting on it!!!!
Am enjoying BBC pundits' heads exploding over something that is entirely normal in Europe. Pretty sure the German budget (in draft, so not even decided) is just a press release...

My mum ordered a new freezer from AO and when the delivery van came, it did not have a tail lift - apparently the company won't pay for them

The two guys were expected to lift freezers, washing machines etc off the back of the van themselves...which does not seem safe

If he wants to reduce welfare spending maybe he should pay staff enough that they don't need in-work benefits.
