You start dying slowly not when you face death —
but when you stop living deeply.

Brazilian poet #MarthaMedeiros reminds us to travel, risk, feel, and dream — before routine gently erases our fire.

Tonight's film was The Idiot (1951). As a film that was shot and edited to be a 4hr 25m film, then had 99 mins cut out to make it 2hrs 46m, it feels like half a film and too damn long at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of Russian literature, and even Kurosawa couldn'tmake it work for me.
Recommendation: Watch movie Hyenas by Djibril Diop Mambéty

The old Saudi brand was “austere theocracy,” but the new one is “fun, fun, fun, but still with beheading.” - brilliant piece with so many laugh out loud moments:
"Sometimes you have to ask yourself: How did I get here—sitting in Saudi Arabia, listening to Louis C.K. do jokes about Barely Legal magazine?"

I went to Riyadh to see the transformation of a country with the world's biggest cultural chequebook. Gift link:

happy bday German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, b.1844.

“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”

“You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.”

“I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.”
Finding refuge in words amidst chaos. A powerful poem by Hiba Abu Nada, translated by Huda Fakhreddine — a prayer for protection, hope, and resilience in times of war.

Poems have minds of their own. Last night, voices from a celebration by the river slipped into a poetry craft exercise, and the poem that emerged travelled farther than I expected — a bit like counter/field itself, I suppose.
