David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Only half joking: Is he spiraling out of control?

It is important to recognize that there is a thing called neoliberal state and neoliberalism is not classical liberalism. Also neomercantilism largely remains within the neoliberal governmentality/episteme as it deploys economic incentives to govern citizenry, even if meddles with macro levers.

There is a robust literature on neoliberal authoritarianism as well as the relationship between neoliberalism and authoritarianism. Having said that I think neomercantilism in its variants as a postneoliberal phenomenon is worth using to understand late Erdogan.

I am thinking about that Harper’s Magazine letter on cancel culture and its esteemed signatories. They are very quiet now.

#biamag | XXIV. Dokufest’e buyurmaz mısınız?

✍ Murat Türker, 24. Dokufest’te Türkiye’den katılan yapımları ve festivalin öne çıkan filmlerini yazdı.

bianet.org/yazi/xxiv-do...
Görselde, siyah beyaz bir orman manzarasında, sırtında dev bir yılan taşıyan bir kişi yürürken görülüyor. Elinde büyük bir pala var. Sol üstte “Murat Türker yazdı”, sol altta “biamag cumartesi” logosu yer alıyor. Görsel, vahşi doğa ve insan ilişkisini çarpıcı biçimde yansıtıyor.

Coming from a denialist culture, I have a sense that once perpetrators begin to produce too many explanations as to what is going on is not a genocide, it is a sign that the process has already reached its highest stage.

Here’s the short intervention I delivered for the roundtable. Two main threads of the roundtable were on death drive and free association, but there were many other connections.

I hope it’s become evident that corporate news will partner with fascists to attack the Left because literally our history is the story of how the wealth class use their political and media organs to ensure all Leftists are demonized and crushed.

That’s the whole ballgame.

A global minimum tax on the ultrarich could change planetary politics. Right now South Africa, Chile, France, and Spain are pushing for it

France could raise around €20 billion per year from this tax

That’s half of the €40B the government is looking for this year

Globally? $302–377 billion could be raised—every year

From the ultra-rich. Who currently pay very little.
