In honor of Dick Van Dyke's 100th birthday, I feel everyone should seek out and watch THE RUNNER STUMBLES

You can be in hot pursuit. You can be in a hot fur suit. But I don't think you can be in both at the same time.

Four barrels going. Sherry, Tawny Port (both 2 months), cask strength whiskey flavored with vanilla and cardamom (3 mos) and a regular white whiskey (6 mos)

Technically, I have a cask of amontillado in my basement. Will need to throw a party after hitting the brickyard

I reformatted some text to Calibri last week to make it more readable. I didn't realize I was violating State Department policy
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move
Rubio Stages Font Coup: Times New Roman Ousts Calibri
The secretary of state called it a "wasteful" diversity move, according to an internal department cable seen by Reuters.

Which monologue is more traumatic: Robert Shaw's "Indianapolis" speech in JAWS, or Phoebe Cates' Christmas speech in GREMLINS?

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

Not happy losing Tom Lehrer and Tom Stoppard in the same year
One of the giants. I’d just reread Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead for roughly the hundredth time. The thing that struck me is his work is never diminished by familiarity, that on the hundredth read I’d still gasp, stop breathing at the wit and depth. www.theguardian.com/stage/2025/n...
Tom Stoppard, playwright of dazzling wit and playful erudition, dies aged 88
A theatrical sensation since the 1960s, whose dramas included Arcadia, The Real Thing and Leopoldstadt, Stoppard also had huge success as a screenwriter

OMG. I have forgotten what a treat THE IN-LAWS (Peter Falk, Alan Arkin) is. Vintage NYC, perfect facial timing. Showing it to my (adult) son, we are drinking whiskey and guffawing

I encourage DHS to keep beating and arresting priests. No mercy for praying in front of detention centers.

Amazing how many violations of the First Amendment one can cram into a day
From an official government account: "Womp womp."

It is not just that we are ruled by morons, but our tax dollars are paying the salaries of morons who possess the emotional capacity of a Doberman in heat.

Watching GRIZZLY MAN on Criterion. One of those films that you don't think is going to be as interesting as it turns out to be. Herzog is so interested on the nature and meaning of being human, he can't help but ask questions and show perspectives that would not have occurred to you

Snagged a DVD of one of my all-time faves from childhood, MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES w James Cagney & Dorothy Malone (same year she won her Oscar). One of the templates for the classically told biopic.

Starts w a eulogy given by Irving Thalberg, played by Robert Evans (yes, *that* Robert Evans)

My basement is so cold, but that is where my workspace and my "media center" is located. The heat upstairs is toasty but does not reach downstairs. Space heaters only do so much.

I am thinking of installing a basement fire pit.

I did read "Nobody's Girl" and it was too devastating to read all at once. It is a tsunami of hurt and pain. And it is difficult to read even before Ghislane Maxwell makes her first malevolent appearance.

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair....
Demolition crews have begun tearing down part of the White House to build President Trump’s long-desired ballroom — despite his pledge that construction of the $250 million addition wouldn’t “interfere” with the existing building. https://wapo.st/4hl7jyF

After a day of protest, and reading the Diane Keaton obituaries earlier this week, tonight is a long awaited rewatch of REDS

Good day for a protest. Went to the suburban one in front of the Springfield Mall. Somewhere between 500 and 1000 people. A handful of Trump's drivers and a couple agitators with Charlie Kirk signs, but overwhelmingly positive and joyous. Many cars cheerfully honking with thumbs up out of windows

Watching the blackjack scene in the latest episode of ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING.

Counting slowly to myself, and thinking, "There's *seven* Oscars at that table"

What was done in this single building is remarkably similar to the clearing out of the Warsaw Ghetto. Infuriating and terrifying. We can change laws but I don't know how we rebuild a sense of humanity when it is gone
According to eyewitnesses, armed ICE agents dragged kids out of their beds in the middle of the night, zip tied them and put them in rented vans while raiding an * entire apartment building* on the South Side of Chicago.
