i totally get that concern but i think the effort is valuable anyway. public institutions generally have to log the letters and complaints they get from the public so it helps leave a paper trail of opposition to their decision and if enough people send letters it can force wider media discussion.

the time to contact your national broadcasters is now. with rté, rtvslo and others there is momentum here, but still-on-the-fence broadcasters need to know their audiences demand action. write every single week until december, get all your friends and family to do it too.
