Justin Lewis is a Professor of Communication and Creative Industries at the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies at Cardiff University. Opening a short season of events around London to mark the twentieth anniversary of the death of innovative guitarist Derek Bailey, we present an exclusive compilation of rare film and video material from the archives of Incus Records and beyond. Many of these recordings have never been seen before. Join us as we travel the globe, across the decades, to long lost venues, and catch Bailey's encounters with other titans of the improvisation scene. Amongst them, Peter Brötzmann, Pat Thomas, Paul Rutherford, Barry Guy, Gavin Bryars and Tony Oxley. We also witness an explosive encounter with turntablist DJ Soul Slinger in New York City, at the peak of Bailey’s mid-Nineties interest in playing live to unpredictable beats.

Actually, I think part of the problem is that there are too many new Christmas songs, for the sake of it, it seems. And the vast majority aren't terribly memorable. To make the song special in itself should be paramount.

I know this is a grouch opinion, but one thing I used to like about Christmas in pop was that only some of the records were about Christmas. There was real range in the top ten, and even non-seasonal Christmas hits had some magic about them.
