Arthur Miller, Harmanpreet Kaur, the 1982 FIFA World Cup and a plague of gnats. A few thoughts on a recent game at the ICC World Cup.

What a massive own goal for the ICC to refuse to make post-match World Cup press conferences available to join via Zoom. They cannot realistically expect overseas freelancers to travel between 5 grounds & 2 countries?

A cynic might say they don't actually WANT independent press coverage 👀

New episode out now rounding up the first few games of the World Cup, discussing legacy and how cricket can learn from rugby. Plus how England now & Ashes England are “chalk and cheese” (maybe they are with South Africa 38/6 just after the powerplay 🤷‍♀️)

Gaby Lewis finished 141* & Lancashire are One Day Cup champions

Two trophies for Lancashire this season after a barren spell as Thunder

Gaby Lewis reaches a century in the ODC Final

It’s difficult for Irish players to get a gig as an overseas but she’s taken advantage of the opportunity and been important for Lancs on a few occasions now

Covers on & drizzle falling at the Utilita Bowl ahead of what is meant to be the Hampshire v Surrey SF.

But don’t despair! You can read this piece on BBC Sport about Mary & Millie Taylor. I had a LOT of fun doing this interview - they are brilliant!

21 games on commentary (I think!) this summer 🎙️🏏

It’s been an absolute pleasure to cover the first professional county season doing both Tier 1 & 2

Thankyou to all those who have trusted me on the mic & those I’ve worked with…on to 2026

Durham coming back out v Surrey.
They need 211 off another 25.5 overs.
Durham need to get ahead of DLS asap in case game is further shortened.
After 4 overs Durham are 16/1 - DLS is 34.
00childpodcast.bsky.social
Revised target for Durham of 225 from 29 overs - 211 from 25.5 overs (6 over powerplay)

More rain due later. Durham need a bonus point win to qualify (major maths), Surrey need a win or the game to be called off

Lots of on and off rain here in Chester-Le-Street

Lots of maths going on too!

Durham need to win in 36.3 overs (I think?!?) to qualify for the semi-finals.

Somerset need Durham to win... but in more than 36.3 overs!
crickether.com
With Somerset well-placed for a bonus point win, are Durham going to throw caution to the wind and go for their target in 40 overs? Or will they take the more cautious option of going for the win and hoping Somerset mess up?

Ok... this isn't quite right.

If they play 20 overs, but the game is tied and two super-overs can't be played, *then* the higher placed team wins.

But if they can't play 20 overs then the trophy is shared.

It's the Tier 2 One Day Cup Final this weekend - Yorkshire v Glamorgan at Worcester; and the forecast is not looking great.

So… what are the rain regs?

* There is no reserve day for T2
* If a 20-over game cannot be completed, the higher placed team will win - ie. Glamorgan
