I was honored and humbled to join HRC Minnesota last night for their annual dinner.

I am so proud to be a part of a state and an administration that is clear that we will not stop fighting for LGBTQ+ rights. It’s not a political calculus, it’s a moral one.

I’ve said it before and I’ll said it again: Gender-affirming care is healthcare, period. It is evidence-based, backed by the American Medical Association, and helps trans individuals live their lives with the dignity we all deserve. Gender-affirming care saves lives.

I want to say especially clearly to healthcare providers that Secretary Kennedy’s so-called ‘declaration’ and the threats he has made to them also have no basis in law. You should continue to care for patients without discrimination and leave the federal government to us.

It is illegal in Minnesota to discriminate against trans people. Period, full stop. That includes in bathrooms. Treating people’s ability to use public spaces as a “social issue” continues to bandy about trans people’s existence as a political issue and it is gross. And dangerous.

Trans rights are human rights, not “social issues.” To insist that trans people must bear the brunt of cis people’s discomfort is not in the same universe as DFL values.
